Spencerville FD holds Easter breakfast
Apr. 19—SPENCERVILLE — The volunteer Spencerville Invincible Fire Company's Easter egg hunt and breakfast fundraiser returned Saturday.
Families crowded into the fire department for all-you-can-eat pancakes and sausage to benefit the volunteer fire department, which relies on a roster of 35 volunteers to provide fire service to the village of Spencerville.
It's one of several fundraisers the fire department relies on to cover its expenses throughout the year.
The Invincible Fire Company recently secured a grant to replace its radio system, though President Cory Counts said the fire department will need to pay $100,000 toward the upgrade.
Replacing a fire truck can cost as much as $1.5 million, Counts said. Even a single set of gear can cost $5,000, he said.
"We appreciate the community's support," Counts said.
An Easter egg hunt at the Spencerville High School football field followed the breakfast.
