Recalled radon gas detectors sold in Canada on Amazon may pose a health and safety risk
Have you used a radon detector lately? There are few identified by Health Canada that may not be giving correct readings.
Health Canada has issued a
recall alert
and
public advisory
for radon detectors sold in Canada through Amazon that are not providing accurate testing results.
The inaccurate readings 'likely pose a danger to human health or safety,' according to the government agency.
Radon detectors are used to measure radon levels.
Radon is an invisible, odourless and tasteless radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of uranium in soil and rock.
When radon is in enclosed spaces, such as homes, it can accumulate to high levels and become a risk to human health, Health Canada explains.
Crawl spaces and basements can have higher concentrations of radon — but it can accumulate in other areas, too.
Long term exposure to radon gas is the second leading cause of lung cancer in Canada after smoking.
The recall involves the Spolehli Radon Detector — a black device with 'Radon Detector' below the LED screen. The recalled radon detector was sold exclusively on
