Gujarat athletes win 13 medals at Khelo India Youth Games

Gandhinagar: Athletes from Gujarat won 13 medals in the 7th Khelo India Youth Games held in Bihar recently. An official statement said that 107 athletes from the state participated in the event, which was held in Bihar. Athletes from the state won two gold, two silver, and three bronze medals in judo; one silver medal in yoga; one silver and two bronze medals in fencing; one bronze medal in swimming; one bronze medal in volleyball; and one bronze medal in wrestling, totalling 13 medals. An official statement said that under-18 athletes from Gujarat participated in a wide range of sports disciplines at the event, organised by the Sports Authority of India (SAI). Athletes from Gujarat participated in individual and team events in volleyball, judo, archery, swimming, gymnastics, weightlifting, wrestling, mallakhamb, tennis, athletics, thang-ta, yoga, gatka, kalaripayattu, fencing, cycling, and shooting. The state govt said that world-class infrastructure is being built to promote a sports culture. Before 2002, Gujarat's sports budget was only Rs 2.5 crore, which increased to over Rs 487.95 crore in 2024.
