KENTUCKY (FOX 56) — Enrollment for heating and electricity assistance began Tuesday, but those in need should act fast as support is based on a first-come, first-served basis.
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) Spring Subsidy is designed to help offset the cost of a household's electric costs, providing eligible households a one-time benefit depending on income levels and housing category.

Income eligibility for the program is up to and including 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines. The benefits are paid directly to the household's electric vendor.

All applicants will be required to supply the following documentation at the time of application:
Proof of Social Security Number or permanent residence card (Green Card) for each member of the household.
Proof of all household's income (all members) from the preceding month.
Most current electric bill, statement from your landlord if electric is included in your rent, statement from the utility company if you participate in a Pre-Pay Electric Program.
The account number and name on the account for the main heating fuel sources and the electric bill.

LIHEAP said the spring subsidy does not require a disconnect notice, a past due bill, or an eviction notice, and the subsidy benefit can be applied as a credit on your account.
