SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Chicopee man was arrested after police found a machine gun inside a stolen vehicle that was tracked through city cameras in Springfield during a ShotSpotter activation investigation. The Springfield Police Department said at around 4:05 a.m. on Sunday, officers were called to Oak Grove Avenue for a ShotSpotter activation. With the help of the Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center, officers were provided with a photo of a suspected vehicle. Two suspects were located, but one of them ran away from the police. A search inside the car revealed a firearm with a sear-selector switch, which turns a firearm into a fully automatic machine gun. SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Two Springfield men were arrested after a loaded firearm and drugs were seized following a shooting on Friday. City cameras used to find suspected vehicle tied to shots fired at Springfield intersection The Springfield Police Department states that on Friday at around 2:40 p.m., officers were sent to the area of Bridge Street and Pearl Street for a ShotSpotter activation. The Springfield Police Real-Time Analysis Center (R-TAC) received descriptions and further information about the suspects, such as that they entered a building on the 0-100 block of Pearl Street and two victims were shot at. The suspects were located in an apartment, and a ghost gun capable of holding 15 rounds of ammunition, 35 capsules of crack-cocaine, and $88 in cash were found inside a backpack. The suspects, who were identified as 18-year-old Jayden Colon of Springfield and a 17-year-old, were arrested. Jayden Colon of Springfield is charged with: Carrying a Firearm without a License Possession of a High-Capacity Magazine/Feeding Device Improper Storage of a Firearm Due to the age of the 17-year-old, his age, his name, booking photo, and charges will not be released.
