Byron Buxton Officially Back
The Minnesota Twins have been among the hotter teams in baseball the past month. They put together a 13-game winning streak and have vaulted themselves to second in the American League Central Division. Despite the winning, there has still been a lack of production from the lineup. Rocco Baldelli's team has been carried by the pitching staff this season and there's always an opportunity to score more runs. Advertisement After suffering a concussion in a collision with teammate Carlos Correa on May 15, the star centerfield is back in the lineup. Minnesota Twins activate Byron Buxton Byron Buxton was placed on the 7-day concussion injured list on May 16. He wound up missing 11 games for the Minnesota Twins but will rejoin the lineup Friday night in Seattle. Carson McCusker was optioned to Triple-A St. Paul following the Twins game Wednesday against the Tampa Bay Rays. He quickly reported to Omaha and played Thursday night. That move opened a roster spot for Buxton, who has traveled with Minnesota on the current road trip. Advertisement Byron Buxton returns as the team leader in fWAR at 1.9. He returns to a .261/.312/.522 slash line with 10 home runs. Aside from this collision, he has been remarkably healthy this season and is running at speeds we haven't seen in years. Hopefully the concussion or any lingering effects don't impact Buxton's overall health. He has played free in the field and on the basepaths this year while enjoying the clean bill of health. Buxton is a perfect 8-for-8 in stolen base attempts. Matt Wallner on the way for MN Twins too It's not just Byron Buxton that the Minnesota Twins will be getting back this weekend. Slugging outfielder Matt Wallner is expected to join the team on Saturday. He has been on the shelf since April 15 with a hamstring strain. In six Triple-A rehab games Wallner slashed .320/.370/.960 with five home runs. He launched dingers in three-straight games to end his time in St. Paul. Advertisement Wallner will return to a .263/.373/.474 slash line for Minnesota. Prior to his injury he was among the Twins most dangerous hitters. Baldelli will be looking for his corner outfielder to pick up where he left off. A logical option candidate to create room for Wallner is outfielder DaShawn Keirsey Jr. He has provided defense and speed this season, but is batting just .111/.138/.159 through 65 plate appearances.

Another Top MN Twins Prospect Hits the IL
The Minnesota Twins have trended back towards a clean bill of health at the major league level. Royce Lewis has been back for a while now, and both Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa returned from their collision. Matt Wallner became the latest to rejoin Rocco Baldelli's 31-27 squad over the weekend. Unfortunately the top prospect health has not been as great on the farm. Walker Jenkins has played just two games this season after dealing with an ankle injury that stems from Spring Training. Emmanuel Rodriguez also suffered an ankle injury around the same time but has been available. Advertisement That is until now. Rodriguez has had a relatively consistent career of injuries, and his latest lands him on the St. Paul Saints injured list. Emmanuel Rodriguez injured at Triple-A for Minnesota Twins If there are three things synonymous with Emmanuel Rodriguez they are patience, power, and injuries. The Minnesota Twins star prospect has constantly been tied to all three during his professional career. A new injury, this time his right hip, lands him on the Triple-A injured list. Rodriguez last played on May 30 for St. Paul. He was lifted for Jeferson Morales and then missed each of the Saints last two games. Minnesota responded by placing him on the injured list with a right hip issue. Advertisement Last season Rodriguez played in just 47 games after dealing with a thumb injury that ultimately required season-ending surgery. He got 99 games in with Cedar Rapids during 2023, but it's the only season of his five-year career in which he has played more than 47 games. This year, his first full season at Triple-A, Rodriguez has performed to his offensive track record. He owns a .232/.400/.392 slash line. The outfielder has posted six doubles, a triple, and four home runs with a 56/32 K/BB ratio. Rodriguez is a capable centerfielder that is more likely destined for a corner spot. His patience at the plate can be to his detriment, and is a reason the average sags. He does have legitimate plus-power and is considered a consensus top 25 prospect across baseball. Advertisement Amidst the roster shuffling for St. Paul, they do get Payton Eeles back. He is an independent baseball success story that has climbed the Twins minor league ranks. The 25-year-old made it from Single-A to Triple-A last season and owned a .299/.419/.500 line with St. Paul across 64 games. It wouldn't be a shock to see the utility infielder debut with Minnesota this season. How long will the Twins miss E-Rod this time? Each year an injury seems to befall Rodriguez and the Minnesota Twins prospect misses a sizable chunk of time. The severity of this hip injury has not yet been reported, but the timing isn't great. Rodriguez is on the 40-man and would be a candidate to make his big league debut. ESPN Insider Kiley McDaniel recently noted this exact scenario for Rodriguez. 'Rodriguez gets hurt a lot but is at Triple-A doing his usual thing: low average, crazy-high walk rate, power and solid center-field defense.' Kiley McDaniel – ESPN McDaniel called Rodriguez the Twins 'next to debut' but this certainly throws water on that. Carson McCusker got a promotion only after a rash of injuries. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. was optioned after Matt Wallner returned, and his .109/.136/.156 line won't earn him a return all too soon. Advertisement Theoretically Rodriguez could have been next in line if Minnesota needed a regular outfielder. The 22 year old's latest injury puts a wrench in the plan though. The hope should be that this injury doesn't cost him significant time, but that's never been a reality for the Dominican Republic native. Related Headlines

Minnesota Twins Slugger Nearing a Return to Action
If the Minnesota Twins lineup has you squinting to recognize some of the names of late that's because it's quite the interesting collection. Jonah Bride and Kody Clemens weren't part of the organization to start the season. You probably just became familiar with Carson McCusker. None of that has stopped Rocco Baldelli's club from winning though. The Minnesota Twins just wrapped up a 13-game winning streak and now sit at 26-21 headed into divisional matchups against Cleveland and Kansas City. Credit: William Purnell-Imagn Images It's not ideal that the Twins have seen their depth tested of late, but it's a positive that they have stuck together. Byron Buxton and Carlos Correa are the two latest stars to hit the injured list. Matt Wallner was among the first of them, and he could be back soon. Advertisement Related Headlines MN Twins eyeing rehab assignment for Matt Wallner Matt Wallner last appeared in a game for the Minnesota Twins on April 15. He suffered a left-hamstring strain running to first base and has now missed the last month. He could begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul as soon as Wednesday. Originally Wallner did a bit more damage to his hamstring by not totally understanding the injury. Soft tissue and lower body setbacks haven't really been part of his career to this point. With Tuesday representing the six-week mark since he last played, the timeline is coming more clear. Advertisement When Wallner originally hit the injured list he did so as Minnesota's most productive hitter. His 0.5 fWAR through 18 games was a reflection of solid production at the plate and consistent defense in right field. Wallner will return to a .263/.373/.474 slash line for the Minnesota Twins. He had just recently hit his first home run, but the power has always been part of his game and will be something the lineup will welcome back. He has yet to experience the new Spartan Helmet, but you can bet he'll don it quickly. It remains to be seen how many games the Twins will have Wallner play for St. Paul. The Saints are scheduled for five games against Norfolk at CHS Field starting on Wednesday. Rain and cooler temperatures will certainly factor into his availability. The Twins had Royce Lewis play six rehab games with St. Paul after suffering a similar injury. Wallner has a single hurdle to clear on Tuesday prior to his rehab assignment kicking off. It's good to see that both of his teammates are also progressing after being involved in a nasty collision together out in Baltimore. Minnesota Twins outfield changes on the horizon When Wallner does return to the Minnesota Twins he will shake up the outfield situation a bit. It's possible that Byron Buxton beats him back to the active roster after being placed on the concussion injured list. The group currently has four players including Harrison Bader, DaShawn Keirsey Jr., Trevor Larnach, and Carson McCusker. Advertisement It stands to reason that McCusker is the most likely candidate to be optioned. Kody Clemens and Willi Castro can both play the outfield. Wallner should eventually assume his every day role in right field. He can be eased back in with designated hitter at bats as well. Freddy Peralta, Brewers end Twins 13-game winning streak
Freddy Peralta allowed one run over five solid innings as the Milwaukee Brewers avoided a sweep with a 5-2 victory over visiting Minnesota on Sunday, snapping the Twins 13-game winning streak. Peralta (5-3) needed 90 pitches to navigate those innings, allowing one run. a solo homer, on three hits. He struck out five, walked two and hit two batters. Trevor Megill finished with a perfect ninth for his sixth save in seven opportunities. Zebby Mathews (0-1), called up from Triple-A St. Paul, allowed four runs on five hits in three innings in his season debut. Minnesota had not lost since a 6-1 defeat at Boston on May 2. Milwaukee capitalized on Matthews' lack of command for three runs in the third to go in front 4-0. After striking out the first two hitters, Matthews issued three consecutive walks to load the bases. Alex Collins followed with a two-run single and Sal Frelick singled in a run. Royce Lewis got Minnesota on the board in the fourth with his first homer, a one-out solo shot to left. The Twins loaded the bases with two outs on with a pair of walks around an error, but Peralta got Trevor Larnach on an inning-ending fly to right. The Twins cut the lead to 4-2 in the seventh when Larnach doubled with one out, advanced on a fly out, and scored on Brooks Lee's single. Jackson Chourio preserved the lead in the eighth inning with a leaping grab of Lewis' potential game-tying drive above the center field wall with a runner on second. Milwaukee added a run in the eighth when William Contreras walked, advanced to third on a wild pitch and ground out, and scored on a sacrifice fly. The Brewers snapped Minnesota's team-record streak of 34 consecutive scoreless innings with a run in the second. Christian Yelich and Rhys Hoskins opened with consecutive singles and both advanced on a sacrifice bunt. Frelick followed with an RBI single. Carson McCusker, called up by the Twins earlier in the day from Triple-A St. Paul, pinch-hit in the eighth and bounced to the pitcher to end the inning in his first big league at-bat. The 6-8, 250-pound McCusker was hitting .350 with 10 homers and 36 RBI in 38 games at Triple-A.

Twins' Carlos Correa goes on 7-day concussion IL after colliding with Byron Buxton
Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa was placed on the seven-day concussion injured list Friday, a day after he collided with center fielder Byron Buxton in pursuit of a shallow fly ball. Buxton had entered concussion protocol after Minnesota's 4-0 victory at Baltimore on Thursday and also was held out of the Twins' lineup Friday for the opener of a three-game series at Milwaukee. The Twins are carrying an 11-game winning streak into that series. In the third inning of Thursday's game, Correa retreated to the outfield grass for the ball while Buxton raced in and appeared to call for it at the last second before they banged heads. Bench coach Jayce Tingler, filling in for manager Rocco Baldelli due to an illness, indicated the crowd noise hampered their communication during the play. Correa was removed immediately. Buxton was taken out the next inning. Brooks Lee, the regular second baseman, played shortstop against the Brewers. DaShawn Keirsey Jr. was in center field. In other moves Friday, the Twins selected infielder Ryan Fitzgerald's contract from Triple-A St. Paul and transferred right-handed pitcher Michael Tonkin to the 60-day injured list. The 30-year-old Fitzgerald was hitting .328 with a .426 on-base percentage, four homers and 21 RBS in 35 games with St. Paul. The 30-year-old Correa had missed just three games this season — all scheduled rest days — after being limited to 86 games last season because of plantar fasciitis in his right foot. Buxton, whose career has been even more interrupted by injuries, also played in 41 of Minnesota's first 44 games. Correa, a three-time All-Star, is hitting .236 with a .274 on-base percentage, two homers and 13 RBIs this season. Reporting by The Associated Press. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
