Running every year since 1984, the week provides a crucial opportunity to thank volunteers and recognise the value of their time, passion and skills. St Andrew's Hospice will join thousands of charities and voluntary organisations recognising the contribution volunteers make across the UK. This Volunteers' Week, St Andrew's Hospice will be celebrating their 712 volunteers by hosting a series of events, where volunteers can come together, enjoy afternoon tea and some live music and dancing. ‌ Head of people, Karen Donnelly, told Lanarkshire Live: 'We want to take this opportunity to extend our deepest gratitude to all our amazing volunteers for the incredible support and dedication they continue to offer St Andrew's Hospice. "Their time, effort, and passion have made a significant impact on our ability to provide exceptional care to patients and families across Lanarkshire. "We couldn't be more grateful for all that they do. Their contribution, no matter how big or small, helps bring us closer to our mission of providing specialist palliative care services to all those who need it in our local community. They truly make a difference." ‌ Karen added: "We also want to take this moment to invite others to join our volunteer team. "If you share our vision and are eager to contribute, we would love to hear from you. Two drinks firms are hoping for a significant net gain as they team up for a charity football match in aid of St Andrew's Hospice this weekend. Airdrieonians FC's Excelsior Stadium will host the clash between teams from the town's International Beverage and Bellshill's William Grant & Sons on Saturday, with kick-off at 1pm. ‌ The kind-hearted Lanarkshire companies have held the fundraiser twice before - in 2022 and 2023 - and collected around £37,000 for the hospice. ‌ Download the Lanarkshire Live app today The Lanarkshire Live app is available to download now. "As a business, we are always looking at ways to support organisations that matter the most to our staff as well as supporting the local community surrounding our sites, so St Andrew's Hospice certainly fits the bill. ‌ "The vital care and support they provide to local patients and their families is immeasurable, and our team will be bringing their A-game to the pitch this weekend." Colin McGraw, performance improvement co-ordinator at William Grant & Sons, added: "It's the third time we've been invited to take part in this fabulous event to help raise as much as we can for St Andrew's Hospice - a great charity in our local community that gives so much to its patients and their families. Specsavers East Kilbride bring Easter cheer in support of hospice charity

All funds raised will support St Andrew's Hospice and its work providing care and support to those who need it the most in community. Staff at Specsavers in East Kilbride gave St Andrew's Hospice a funding boost through a series of Easter-themed fundraising events. The town centre store brought some Easter cheer through their egg-colouring competition, which saw over 25 entries from budding young artists from across the town - all to win some chocolatey treats. ‌ Team members also hosted an in-store raffle offering customers to the chance to win a series of prizes, raising £70 for the charity. ‌ All funds raised will support St Andrew's Hospice and its work providing care and support to those who need it the most in community. Marianne Keys, store director at Specsavers East Kilbride, said: "I'd like to thank all of our customers, both young and old, who joined us in our Easter celebrations to raise money for such a good cause. "I'd like to extend that thanks to the Specsavers East Kilbride team who went above and beyond to put the fun in fundraising. We hope that this funding goes on to help provide vital support for such a crucial charity."

Callum Beattie surprised walkers at the Wear Yellow Walk in aid of St Andrew's Hospice. The sponsored event, which took place on May 7, saw more than 2,200 primary school pupils walk around Strathclyde Park to raise money for the hospice. One lucky girl was even invited on stage to join the musician in a song. Beattie met with everyone who took part in the event, even going so far as to sign their yellow hats, which were sponsored by Scottish Confectionery company Tunnock's. The walking event ended in a triumph, with Beattie rounding off his performance with a particularly appropriate rendition of The Proclaimer's smash hit I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles).

The Makers & Merchants Monthly Market launch day will take place on Saturday, May 10, starting at 10am. ‌ Set in the idyllic Lanark Agricultural Market in the heart of the beautiful Clydeside, the market will take place once a month becoming the ultimate destination for foodies and craft lovers. Expect amazing food trucks, food, drink and, of course, crafts. Meanwhile, the historic Stonehouse bandstand will be filled with the sound of a range of music as it provides the spectacular stage for a community festival. ‌ Friends of Stonehouse Park and Avondale Radio are teaming up to run the Bandstand Beatz event on Saturday, May 10, showcasing a host of talented local musicians – and with organisers saying 'tickets are flying' for the free event. It takes place at the century-old bandstand in the town's Alexander Hamilton memorial park from 1pm to 7pm, during what is the park's centenary year. Free tickets are available at And history buffs can take a tour of one of the finest private tombs in the country at the striking historic landmark, Hamilton Mausoleum. ‌ Book a tour this Saturday, May 10 and discover how breathtaking it is, with its massive domed interior, magnificent bronze doors, marble floors, and eerily atmospheric crypt with the world-famous echo. Tours are available on the second and fourth Saturday of each month from February to November and must be booked at least two days in advance.
