Flats evacuated as armed police close off Edinburgh street
Several flats have been evacuated in Edinburgh after armed police closed off part of a were called to the tenement block on St Leonard's Street in Newington at about 09:00 on Saturday morning following reports of a disturbance.A Police Scotland spokeswoman said properties had been evacuated as a "precaution".St Leonard's Street remains closed at the junction of St Leonard's Place and Lutton Place and drivers have been warned to avoid the area.

Edinburgh locals 'forced' to stay inside as 'riot police' lock down building
Residents on an Edinburgh street have been claimed Police Scotland officers told them 'to stay inside' after riot police locked down their street. Officers closed off St Leonards Street on Saturday morning, with officers in riot suits seen patrolling the street and talking to an individual in one of the flats above. One passer-by told Edinburgh Live: "Swat team and dogs deployed to the building. Negotiators arriving just now. The rest of the building has been evacuated.
