Teen swarming attack caught on camera in Kitchener, Ont.
A shocking video has been circulating online of a swarming incident involving teens in Kitchener, Ont. It showed at least 10 high school students surrounding a person laying on the ground, curled up in a ball as they are repeatedly punched and kicked, while others stand by and record the attack on their phones. At the end of the video, one person rushed in and threw their body over the victim to protect them from further violence. According to the Waterloo Regional Police Service, the attack happened around 3:30 p.m. on Friday at a plaza on Block Line Road, beside St. Mary's High School. (Submitted) One student, who claimed he was the victim in the video, said he was involved in another fight in that same plaza. It was that altercation, he explained, that lead to Friday's swarming attack. The Waterloo Catholic District School Board shared the following statement: 'We are aware of a physical altercation that took place last Friday outside a nearby plaza involving several students,' a statement from the read. The involvement of any identified students has been addressed at the school level, in accordance with board policies.' — Waterloo Catholic District School Board Students said the person who came to the victim's rescue was a customer at a nearby business. (Karis Mapp/CTV News) One parent said she attempted to warn the principal at St. Mary's but claimed she was told that nothing could be done because the fights happen off school property. The security company that monitors the plaza told CTV News they were not aware of a fight on Friday, while businesses said they heard a commotion but didn't think anything of it as they are used to big groups of rowdy teens. The Waterloo Regional Police Service said they continue to investigate the attack.

Kitchener high school celebrates Indigenous culture
Organizers hosted 32 classes at St Mary's High School in Kitchener to give students a chance to take part in courses about Indigenous literacy, religion and history. Jennifer Ritsma, the Catholic school board's superintendent of learning, Jennifer Staats, an Indigenous and equity consultant, and Knowledge Keeper Darlene Schaffer spoke to CBC K-W's Aastha Shetty about the event.

Another 30 locations in Waterloo Region listed as potential measles exposure sites
Two high schools in Kitchener and Waterloo, Ont. have temporarily closed after possible measles exposure. The Region of Waterloo's list of possible measles exposure sites continues to grow. They are advised to self-monitor for symptoms and contact their health care provider if they believe they may have measles. What to know about measles Measles is a highly contagious virus. The disease can spread through the air when an infected person coughs, sneezes or breathes. Even brief exposure to measles can result in illness. Symptoms include a fever, runny nose, cough, red watery eyes, small white spots inside the mouth and a red blotchy rash. Other signs of measles include diarrhea, ear infections and pneumonia. In severe cases, measles can cause brain inflammation and death. It usually takes between seven and 21 days for symptoms to show up. Anyone who believes they may have been exposed to measles is asked to stay at home and avoid contact with others. If medical treatment is needed, people are urged to contact their health provider ahead of time to prevent the illness from spreading to other patients.
