Louth motorists can expect three more weeks of traffic disruption admits council

Louth County Council has issued a statement saying it 'acknowledges the public concern regarding traffic delays on the north side of Dundalk, particularly in the vicinity of the Bridge Street and Newry Road area.' These delays are due to essential improvement works to footpaths, road surfaces, and underground services as part of the St Nicholas Quarter Regeneration Scheme. The works commenced on Monday, June 3, and are expected to continue for approximately three weeks. Signage and a three-way temporary traffic signal have been installed at St Nicholas' Gardens, Maxwell's Row and Bridge Street/Newry Road to manage the safe movement of vehicles through the affected area. Louth County Council said it holds regular discussions with local businesses and the Dundalk BIDS Office, and in recent weeks, has engaged with local schools and the Department of Education to make them aware of potential delays during the state examinations. In addition, the appointed contractor, Glas Civil Engineering Ltd, wrote to local businesses and traders in advance of the works to try and keep disruption in the area to a minimum. 'We want to thank the public for their continued patience and cooperation while these important works are carried out. We understand that the delays have caused frustration for many, and we apologise for the inconvenience caused,' said a spokesperson. 'Louth County Council remains committed to completing the project as efficiently as possible and will continue to provide updates as the works progress.'
