Who is Romano Floriani Mussolini, the great-grandson of the Italian dictator, re-signed by Lazio?
Romano Floriani Mussolini, the great-grandson of Italian dictator Benito Mussolini, was re-signed by Serie A side Lazio ahead of the 2025-26 season.
Romano started his footballing journey at Roma, before moving to Lazio, where he graduated from the youth academy and signed a professional contract in 2021. He was named in Lazio's matchday squad against Hellas Verona, but was not used as a substitute.
The right-back spent the last two years on loan in Italian lower divisions, first with Pescara and then with Juve Stabia.
In December 2024, Romano courted controversy after Stabia fans celebrated a goal of his against Cesena with fascist salutes.
After an impressive 2024-25 season, during which Romano accumulated 37 appearances across all competitions, Stabia decided to buy him permanently, following which Lazio activated its buy-back option.
'SS Juve Stabia 1907 announces that it has exercised the option to buy the defender born in 2003, Romano Floriani Mussolini, who joined from SS Lazio in the terms set by federal regulations. At the same time, and within the time limit, SS Lazio has exercised their counter-option to buy back the player, as set out in the agreements signed last season,' shared Stabia through a media release.
Romano is the third child of Alessandra Mussolini and her husband, Mauro Floriani, and the great-grandson of Benito Mussolini, who served as Prime Minister of Italy from 1922 to 1943, following a fascist coup.
