Watch the Diamond League track & field meet from Rome
2025 World Athletics Wanda Diamond League: Rome Live in 1 day Social Sharing Click on the video player above beginning on Friday at 3 p.m. ET to watch live action from the Diamond League track and field meet in Rome, Italy. There will be no shortage of star power at the Diamond League circuit's latest stop, the Golden Gala Pietro Mennea in Rome. The Stadio Olimpico will host 14 events that will award Diamond League points and the lineup includes 11 Olympic champions, 15 Diamond League champions, and a total of 62 medallists from the Olympics and world championships. Here are some of the key events to watch for when the event begins in the Italian capital on Friday at 3 p.m. ET on and CBC Gem: Men's 100m The start list for this contest includes Tokyo Olympic silver medallist and Paris 2024 bronze medallist Fred Kerley of the United States, as well as fellow Americans Trayvon Bromell, Courtney Lindsay, and Brandon Hicklin. The 4:38 p.m. ET race will also feature Italy's Filippo Tortu and Chituru Ali, Ferdinand Omanyala of Kenya, Japan's Abdul Hakim Sani Brown, and Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme. This season's world lead in the 100 is held by American Kenny Bednarek, who ran to a time of s 9.86 seconds at the Grand Slam Track stop in Philadelphia last weekend. Women's discus This event begins features two double Olympic champions, Valarie Allman of the U.S. and Croatia's Sandra Elkasevic-Perkovic. Also competing are three world champions: American Laulauga Tausaga, Cuba's Yaimé Perez, and China's Feng Bin. Italy's Daisy Osakue, Germans Kristin Pudenz and Marike Steinacker, Jorinde Van Klinken of the Netherlands, and Sweden's Vanessa Kamga will also be in action. Women's 5,000m Two world record holders headline the field of 18 runners in the women's 5,000m (3:31 p.m. ET): Ethiopia's Gudaf Tsegay owns the fastest time in the 5,000 (14:00.21), while Kenya's Beatrice Chebet has the record in the 10,000 (28:54.14). Men's 400m A trio of Olympic champions will compete in the men's 400m in Rome: Paris 2024 winner Quincy Hall of the U.S., London 2012 champion Kirani James of Grenada, and American Vernon Norwood, who's a two-time Olympic gold medallist in the 4x400m relay. Also lining up for the 3:59 p.m. ET race are South Africa's Zakithi Nene, Botswana's Collen Kebinatshipi, Belgium's Alexander Doom, Great Britain's Charlie Dobson, Hungary's Attila Molnar, and Italy's Edoardo Scotti. Arsenal handed £6m transfer boost as forgotten man completes exit
Nuno Tavares has spent the last three seasons out on loan after falling out of Mikel Arteta's plans in North London and has now signed a permanent deal with Italian side Lazio Arsenal's forgotten man, Nuno Tavares, has completed a permanent move to Italian side Lazio. The Portuguese international, who spent last term on loan with the Serie A side, moves in a £6million deal. He has signed a three-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico. The 25-year-old joined Arsenal in the summer of 2021 from Benfica in an £8million move, making 28 appearances in all competitions. But he never looked an ideal fit at left-back for Mikel Arteta's side, combining occasional thrilling attacking forays with somewhat haphazard defending. As new arrivals in that role followed, Tavares was cast aside, heading on loan to Monaco, then Nottingham Forest and most latterly Lazio. In the Italian capital he has impressed, operating as a wing-back and thrusting his way into the Portugal national team, winning his first senior international cap when he came on as a substitute in Portugal's 5-1 win against Poland in the UEFA Nations League last November. An Arsenal statement said: "Everyone at Arsenal would like to thank Nuno for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future." Tavares will be joined at Lazio this season by the returning former Chelsea head coach Maurizio Sarri - who has rejoined the club 15 months after leaving. Sarri, 66, is back at the helm, replacing Marco Baroni, who led Lazio to a seventh-place finish last term - missing out on European qualification. Sarri resigned in March 2024 after five defeats in six games and voicing his displeasure at the club's transfer policy, following three years in charge - during which time he led them to a second place finish, their best since winning the title in 2000. Lazio president Claudio Lotito said in a statement earlier this week: "Maurizio Sarri has returned home. "His return is a choice of heart, conviction and vision. With him we want to resume a path that was interrupted too soon, aware that together, we can bring back enthusiasm, identity and ambition. "Welcome back to your home, commander."

Ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp agrees stunning return to management with Roma
Jurgen Klopp is poised to make a sensational return to the dugout, with La Stampa claiming the former Liverpool manager has agreed to take over at AS Roma. Klopp stepped down from his Anfield post at the end of last season. The German tactician appeared to be easing into a less hands-on role as Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull GmbH. However, Klopp has reportedly opted for an unexpected new chapter at the Stadio Olimpico weeks after links to the Real Madrid job. Per the report, Klopp had initially been in talks with another club amid a potential change of ownership. When that project collapsed, he pivoted to Roma. The report pinpoints the exact moment the deal was sealed. According to La Stampa, at 10:57 p.m. local time on May 18, Klopp gave his green light to Roma president Dan Friedkin. With his high-energy pressing style and track record of building unified, cohesive squads, the Giallorossi may finally have found the man to bridge the gap to the elite teams in Italy. The change also marks a graceful exit for Claudio Ranieri, the ever-reliable statesman who returned for a final spell to stabilise a Roma team flipping through managers. The legendary Italian gaffer took a team on the brink of collapse and led them back into one of the European slots. His job on the touchline may be over, but Ranieri will stay in a consultancy role, helping Klopp navigate the intricacies of Serie A. Roma fans have been hungry for a return to the top. They have not won a Serie A title since 2001, and their last taste of trophy success came in 2008. However, Klopp has a track record of defying the odds to win titles, and his potential arrival will give fans a reason to dream big.

Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante helped the Giallorossi seal a precious 3-1 win over Milan. After the match, the midfielder dedicated the goal to Claudio Ranieri who made his last appearance at the Stadio Olimpico tonight.
