Affectionate Pit Bull Is Losing Hope in Shelter Watching Her Neighbors Get Adopted

Affectionate Pit Bull Is Losing Hope in Shelter Watching Her Neighbors Get Adopted originally appeared on PetHelpful. Sadly, animal shelters and rescues being over-capacity isn't exactly breaking news. Economic hardship makes pet ownership more expensive than ever, and populations of stray and feral animals in many cities continue to grow. True, more pet parents are also choosing to adopt, not shop, for a new pet, but shelter dogs like Pretzel are sometimes waiting longer than ever. Pretzel is an adorable 3-year-old Staffordshire Terrier mix who's been waiting oh-so-patiently at the Humane Society of Broward County in Florida for her forever person to find her. Although she's been a brave and resilient girl, she's beginning to lose hope after watching so many of her puppy neighbors get adopted. Poor Pretzel! I wish I could reach through the screen and give her a hug, but I know she's in wonderful hands at @humanebroward. She was surrendered to the shelter after raising a litter of puppies, and she's been waiting for someone to treat her like their baby ever since. Needless to say, this precious Pittie girl is more than ready to get adopted. The look on her face when she watches other dogs leave for their forever homes is positively heartbreaking, but her perfect person is out there somewhere. My fingers are crossed that they're just about to find her!Pretzel may have had a rough past, but she's a resilient, affectionate, and playful dog who will thrive in the right forever home. Her ideal person or family will help her gain confidence and feel like part of a family again, no matter how big or small that family may be. She's great with kids, adults, and other dogs, so any family could be her perfect match! Adopting a shelter dog can be a joyful experience, but it also requires plenty of patience and flexibility. Rescue dogs need time to adjust to their forever homes, but after a few weeks, they'll begin to feel completely at home. It's only a matter of time until it's Pretzel's turn to live out her own Happily Ever After! Looking for more PetHelpful updates? Follow us on YouTube for more entertaining videos. 9 dogs rescued in Effingham County by Coastal Pet Rescue

EFFINGHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) – Nine dogs were rescued on Friday afternoon in Effingham County. The dogs were rescued after a social media post alerted officials to the situation. The nine dogs range in size from Jack Russell Terrier mixes to Shar Pei and Staffordshire Terrier mixes, approximately ages 1 to 3 years. Out of the nine rescued Seven are heartworm positive One female who is mom to two litters of the included males is in heat All are covered in fleas All have intestinal parasites Several have extensive skin issues Some are underweight All will need multiple baths to get them completely clean. None of the animals were altered, and the owner admitted none of them had ever seen a vet. According to Coastal Pet Rescue, tethering animals in Effingham County is not against the law and there's no legal limit to how many animals may be on a property. The state does have codes about providing adequate care, which includes medical, and a state law requiring routine rabies vaccination. Currently, two of the dogs have found foster homes, but CPR is in need of more. With this being the third mass intake case of the year, foster and shelter spaces are running low as are medical funds. Donations towards the care these dogs may be sent via venmo coastalpetrescue , cashapp $coastalpetrescue , paypal donations@ , or old fashioned checks to 7430 Thomas Ave, Savannah, GA 31406. Those interested in fostering may apply online here. Coastal Pet Rescue will continue to provide updates on their Facebook page. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Police looking for owner of pit bull that killed small poodle in Santa Monica

Police are searching for the owner of a pit bull that attacked and killed a toy poodle dog in Santa Monica on Friday evening. Christopher Dietrick and Alyssa Kluge are the owners of Dublin, the 11-year-old toy poodle that was killed. They've put up signs all over the city hopeful that someone will be able to point them in the right direction. The attack happened at around 5:30 p.m. near the intersection of Main Street and Strand Street, close to the beach, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. Surveillance video from the scene shows bits of the incident, which happened for almost a minute, all of which Dietrick said he was fighting to save their beloved dog. "As we were walking with our toy poodle, that pit bull lunged and got a hold of our baby. There was a big struggle, it was pretty gruesome," he said. "I just kept punching and punching and punching." They say that they were walking by a man, holding the pit bull on a leash, while he talked to a man inside of a car parked in the street. When they finally pulled the pit bull off of Dublin, the other owner fled with his dog in tow, running north on Main Street. At the same time, the driver of the white sedan that the unknown dog owner was talking to jumped out of the car and began to pick up what Dietrick and Kluge said was a wade of cash that scattered during the dog attack. "It happened so fast and it was so loud and then all of a sudden, everyone started screaming that he was taking off and he started running," Dietrick said. A Good Samaritan that was parked nearby rushed the couple to a nearby veterinarian's emergency room. "We came closer and we saw this guy sitting on the ground, his arms around a dog and the woman next to him screaming," the woman said. "My girlfriend said, 'There's no way he could be alive.' And we said, 'Maybe, maybe, maybe.'" Dublin ultimately died, suffering wounds that proved to be fatal. "He died in my arms ... I've had him since he was nine weeks old, named him Dublin cause I got him on St. Patrick's Day," Kluge said. "He is our son and losing a pet is horrific, obviously, but in the violent way that we experienced it if feels like it's going in the back of my eyelids, that's all I can see." Dietrick also sustained a bite wound during the chaos. Police say that the pit bull, formally known as a Staffordshire Terrier, was gray-and-white. Anyone who knows more is urged to contact Santa Monica Animal Control at (310) 458-8595.

TRENDING STORIES: Firefighter injured while responding to house fire in Darke County Winning Powerball ticket sold in Ohio 10-year-old boy shot, killed while sitting in car Jolene will play for 'Team Ruff' and Zinnia and Pumpkin will play for 'Team Fluff.' 'These playful pups, each with their own unique story and spirit, are ready to win hearts and wag tails as they compete on the big stage,' the Humane Society said. Zinnia, now named Cotopaxi, is a 7-month-old Norwegian Elkhound and Cattle Dog mix. According to the Humane Society, Zinnia and her five siblings were abandoned. Another shelter rescued the pups who were eventually transferred to the Humane Society for care. Zinnia was eventually adopted by a shelter employee who 'couldn't resist her playful spirit and sweet smile,' the Humane Society said. Pumpkin, now named Birdie, is a 7-month-old Pit Bull Terrier and Staffordshire Terrier mix. The Humane Society said Pumpkin's story began with heartbreak but blossomed into hope. Pumpkin's mom was abandoned at the Humane Society while in active labor. The pup and her two siblings were safely born inside, 'where they were surrounded by warmth and love.' She was later adopted after being raised in a foster home with her mother. Jolene, now named Eileen, is a 7-month-old American Pit Bull Terrier and Staffordshire Terrier mix. According to the Humane Society, Jolene was found as a tiny 8-week-old stray, and her back legs were completely paralyzed. Jolene received a special set of wheels that gave her 'the freedom to move, play, and experience the joy of being a puppy,' the Humane Society said. One of the Humane Society veterinarians who had cared for the pup from the beginning adopted Jolene. 'Her story is a beautiful reminder of the power of compassion, determination, and the life-changing impact of adoption,' the Humane Society said. Every year in February the annual Puppy Bowl brings national awareness to pet adoption. The Puppy Bowl will take place on Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. EST.
