Stan Love was a former power forward at the Los Angeles Lakers and the brother of The Beach Boys singer Mike Love. And now, more than a month later, Kevin Love lost another family member and a Rock & Roll Hall of Famer, Brian Wilson . Wilson worked with Mike Love in The Beach Boys. The mastermind behind The Beach Boys died at the age of 82 on Wednesday. NBA champion Kevin Love was related to the two-time Grammy Award winner Brian Wilson Olympic Gold Medalist Kevin Love was close to the Songwriters Hall of Famer Brian Wilson because Kevin's father, Stan Love, was Wilson's caretaker. The Los Angeles Times reported, 'Mike Love was a founding member of the Beach Boys, and Stan Love became an essential adjunct to the band, serving as a human shield for his cousin, Brian Wilson, throughout the turbulent late 1970s and early 80s.' The Parade reported Stan Love, Kevin's father was the younger brother of the Beach Boys founder Mike Love and was Brian Wilson's first cousin once removed. For a period of time my Dad was both his caretaker and bodyguard - particularly during a period when Brian was struggling with mental health and substance abuse. Dad would tell stories of getting him out of the house and onto the basketball court at the local YMCA. I have fond memories of the countless original slides and photos of Brian that my family would often share with us - (you can see them hooping together in the 2nd photo). Former NBA player Stan Love, the father of Miami Heat forward Kevin Love, has died at age 76. Love, 36, took to social media on April 27 to 'Dad, you fought for a long time,' began his Instagram tribute. 'The hardest stretch being these past 6 months. The most painful to witness being these last few weeks. And even at the end as you continued to deteriorate—I still saw you as a Giant. My Protector. My first Hero.' 'The words we continuously heard from you in your last chapter were how blessed you've been to have such a loving family. And in return how much you've loved your wife and kids. Your only wish was to be at home surrounded by your family when you took your dying breath ... That breath came. And now it's time to rest.' Tributes began pouring in on the post, including from Phoenix Suns star Kevin Durant, who played alongside Kevin Love on Team USA's Men's Basketball team during the 2012 London Olympic games. Kevin Love announced his father's death in an Instagram post Sunday night. "Dad, I'm so proud to be your son," Kevin Love posted. "My only hope is that you're proud of me. It was all I ever wanted. Thank you for everything." Stan Love was a 6-foot-9 forward who starred at Morningside High School in Inglewood, California, and at Oregon before he was selected ninth overall by Baltimore in the 1971 NBA draft. He averaged 6.8 points and 4.0 rebounds in 226 games in four seasons with the Bullets and the Los Angeles Lakers. He also played 12 games for San Antonio in the American Basketball Association. Kevin Love has been away from Heat because of personal reasons and will not play in Game 4 against Cleveland on Monday night.
