Father of 5 found dead in Ceres canal ID'd by Stanislaus County coroner
Authorities have identified the man who was found dead Sunday evening in an irrigation canal off Moore Road in Ceres, though questions remain about how he ended up in the water.
Luis Anguiano Calzado, 36, was confirmed as the deceased man by the Stanislaus County Coroner's Office, according to an email Tuesday from Lt. Jeffrey Godfrey of the Ceres Police Department. His cause of death is currently listed as undetermined, pending the results of toxicology testing.
First responders from the Ceres Fire Department, American Medical Response and Ceres Police were dispatched to the 3000 block of Moore Road just after 6 p.m. June 1 after reports of a possible drowning. Upon arrival, officials located Anguiano Calzado in the canal and pronounced him dead at the scene.
At this time, investigators say there is no evidence or witness statement indicating how Anguiano Calzado entered the canal. Police did not immediately release further details about his circumstances or whether foul play is suspected.
The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Ceres Police Department.
A GoFundMe page titled 'In Loving Memory of Luis Armando Anguiano Funeral Fundraiser' says he is survived by five children.
