Paryavaran Bhawan gets 5-star rating for energy efficiency & net zero status, a 1st for any govt building in UT
Chandigarh: Paryavaran Bhawan, located in Sector 19B, has got five stars under the Star Rating for Buildings programme initiated by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency, ministry of power.
It is the first existing govt office building in the UT to get this energy efficiency rating, setting a benchmark for sustainable retrofitting of public infrastructure.
To achieve superior energy efficiency and reduce dependency on conventional power sources, the building is supported by a robust solar power setup. There is an in-house rooftop solar plant of 116 kWp, its off-site solar plant allocation capacity is 160kWp, and the total solar capacity is 276kWp.
Saurabh Kumar, chief conservator of forests and environment director, said, "With this integrated solar capacity, Paryavaran Bhawan successfully achieved net zero energy status in terms of electricity consumption, making it a model green building within the UT. This recognition reflects the Chandigarh administration's strong commitment to energy conservation, renewable energy integration, and sustainable building.
It sets a replicable example for other govt buildings and institutions across the country."
