Golden Apple: Karen Reeves
WAYNESBORO, Ga (WJBF)
Karen Reeves is all about History at Edmund Burke Academy. From 9th grade all the way to graduation, she has you covered.
'I teach U.S. History, A.P. U.S. History, Junior Comp, World Affairs, and Military History,' Reeves says.
And even though History is the name of the subject, Mrs. Reeves makes sure the subject matter connects to today's events.
'We just did that today. In fact, we just did it in this classroom. There is nothing in history that does not connect to the present. There's nothing in history that doesn't connect. It's one continuum. So, I enjoy sharing that with my kids from my perspective so they can see how it applies in their lives today, because it does.'
Mrs. Reeves is a 19-time Star Teacher Award winner. But she still has the energy and enthusiasm of someone who is just starting out.
'Well, you're only as good as your last day. But I have to say, I feel like I'm doing what I'm meant to do. The Lord's in my classroom. And as long as He wants me in the classroom, then even on the days that aren't so exciting or that are challenging, it's my responsibility to be here to fulfill that sort of mission.'
Congratulations Karen Reeves and thank you for a lifetime of teaching. A lifelong dedication to the leaders of tomorrow.
'I want them to learn the lessons that history teaches us,' she says. 'And I want them to apply those lessons in their lives later on. And I want them to know that from my perspective, the Lord is always with them and that those lessons in History reflect that.'
