R.E.M. Beauty Launches New Starlet Liquid Eyeshadow Collection

Out with the old, in with the new. Ariana Grande bid adieu to her 11-shade, R.E.M. Beauty Lustrous Liquid Eyeshadow collection, in exchange for a reformulated, 12-shade Starlet Liquid Eyeshadow collection that launched Thursday. The Academy Award-nominated actress quietly teased the new collection, wearing shade Horoscope at the Critics Choice Awards in February.
'We wanted to refresh the shade offering and lean into more of those enchanting duochromes and wearable metallics that our customers love,' explained Jordan Stephens, R.E.M.'s director of global brand marketing. 'We also wanted to meet the latest Sephora clean standards, and deliver a formula that's talc and alcohol-free. This new made-in-Italy formula is an amazing gel-liquid hybrid, and delivers the same high-performance results of our original formula, but with an even smoother application experience, and vitamin E for added antioxidant care.'

While the new launch includes eight shimmer shades and four mattes, the collection as a whole was ultimately influenced by the original's viral, iridescent Fembot shade (which has crossed over to the latest launch).
'She wanted to build on our hero shade with a collection of new shades,' Stephens said, of the brand's famous founder. 'Ari wanted that same ethereal, prism-like effect that would be unique to each wearer. This is really a quintessential product for our brand and for Ari because of how it encourages self-expression. It can be an extra special touch for every day, or you can build it up for a statement look.'
There's a unique versatility that makes the brand's hero shade a standout.
'[There are many] different ways our community and the makeup artists we work with have used our lustrous eyeshadow,' Stephens said. 'This special type of pearl catches light and reflects the perfect shade for every skin tone, so we've been working on ways to bring it to life across other categories.'
Fans of the original Lustrous Liquid Eyeshadow can consider the new Starlet Liquid Eyeshadow a more elevated version of their comfort collection.
'Users will notice everything they love about our current formula is better: smoother application, weightless wear and elegant color payoff,' Stephens said. 'Liquid Eyeshadow has been a signature category for us since the brand launched, and it was important for Ari to deliver a clean formula with even better results.'
The new Starlet Liquid Eyeshadow formula should be easier to apply, too, with the help of the brand's trusty tapered tear drop applicator. 'It swipes on the perfect amount of product to diffuse with your fingertips or a brush for an ethereal, all-over wash of shine,' Stephens explained. 'You can layer on more product to get your desired coverage for a more opaque effect. The applicator can also be used as a liner to add stand out detailing. There are endless combinations of looks you can create!'
