Bobby Sherman's wife says teen idol's body is 'shutting down' due to terminal illness
Bobby Sherman's body is "shutting down" as he approaches the end of his battle with Stage 4 kidney cancer, according to his wife, Brigitte Poublon. "He was doing crossword puzzles with me in the last few days. And then all of a sudden Saturday, he turned around and … he's just sleeping more and his body's not working anymore. It's not," Poublon told Fox News Digital in a phone interview published Wednesday. "Everything's shutting down." Read more: David Soul, one half of TV's 'Starsky & Hutch,' dies at 80 Poublon confirmed to Fox that Sherman has kidney cancer that has "spread everywhere." She had announced March 25 on Facebook that the 81-year-old, a teen idol in the 1960s, was very ill. "As many of you know, Bobby has been retired for some time and is no longer able to participate in cameos, sign autographs, or make appearances," she wrote in that post, addressing her husband's "cherished fans." "It is with a heavy heart that we share Bobby has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. During this challenging time, we kindly ask for your understanding and respect for our privacy. Thank you so much for still remembering him. We really appreciate it." Sherman had returned home and was getting "special care," Poublon told Fox. "His last words from the hospital last night were, 'Brig, I just want to go home.' " Read more: Dave Coulier is cancer-free and his 'Full House' family couldn't be happier about it Sherman was known for his 'bubble gum music' of the late '60s, having shot to fame after playing fan favorite Jeremy Bolt on 'Here Come the Brides," a TV series that aired from 1968 to 1970. He started recording in 1962, then earned his first gold record in 1969 with the single "Little Woman." He scored more hits with 'Easy Come, Easy Go,' 'Julie, Do Ya Love Me' and "La La La (If I Had You)." After a one-episode gig playing a singer on "The Monkees" in 1968, he appeared in "The Partridge Family" in 1971 as songwriter Bobby Conway. He then spun off out of that episode as the same character in the comedy "Getting Together," which ran for a single season. Sherman stepped away from the entertainment industry to do public service work; he was a volunteer paramedic, a technical reserve police officer with the LAPD and a reserve deputy sheriff with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. But he still appeared periodically on TV through the 1970s and into the mid-1980s on shows including "The Love Boat," "Fantasy Island," "Murder, She Wrote" and "Emergency!," then showed up on an episode of "Frasier" in 1997. "I want to have him realize how many people he really influenced, how he touched lives." On Tuesday, she said on Facebook, "Thank you for all the love and support you've given us this week. Bobby is terminally ill and resting comfortably. Only well wishes are accepted please." Poublon, who married Sherman in 2010, is his second wife. Michael Mann Shares Positive Update on "Heat 2"
Yara Sameh It has a good day for action fiends, because the highly-anticipated "Heat 2" just got the best update it had until today. It has been a long time coming for the sequel to the 1995 Michael Mann movie, which fans have been anticipating since 2022, when the director published "Heat 2", the follow-up novel to the first one upon which the original film, "Heat", is based. In recent times, Mann has expressed continuous commitment to the sequel, and fans will be excited to learn that the crime maven is indeed keeping to his word about prioritizing the project. "Heat 2" is developed at Warner Bros. and could likely be the follow-up to Mann's most recent release, the biographical sports movie "Ferrari" (2023). The latest update comes from Mann himself, who, during a recent interview with Vulture, revealed that the first draft for the sequel is finally complete. "I just finished the screenplay and handed in the first draft," said Mann when asked about the prequel's status. Pressed for more details, Mann gave a cautious response, only revealing who's currently in possession of the script, adding: "In this case, it was Warner Brothers. Any more than that, I can't talk about. But it's an exciting project." Mann has been tirelessly working on the first draft for some time now. In his interview with Collider's Steve Weintraub last year, the director shared a bit of his schedule for completing the script, saying:"I'm finishing the screenplay, and at 2:30 this morning, it woke me up in the middle of the night. So, I'm in the middle of writing the screenplay, and I wound up driving through LA at 3 a.m., which is fantastic, there are no cars, and ended up at Canter's Delicatessen because that's the only thing open 24 hours. Then I sat in a booth and wrote there until about 9:00 this morning, trying to finish act four. It was ironic because it's the same booth I sat in when I wrote the first couple episodes of Starsky & Hutch back in the 1970s. Then The Jericho Mile and probably some early drafts of Heat." With the first draft now ready, "Heat 2" has made major progress towards beginning principal photography. However, it's important to note that an advancement towards filming depends on Warner Bros' satisfaction with the script. The production company might request rewrites or some tweaks, which could further delay the production process; however, given that Mann is adapting his own novel, those modifications could only be minimal. With that in mind, "Heat 2" should make another significant production progress, at least before the year runs out. While no plot details have been made official yet, Mann is expected to faithfully adapt the second book. Described as both a prequel and a sequel, the follow-up film is expected to jump between two time periods. It will again bring to focus the original characters — career criminal Neil McCauley and Detective Vincent Hanna, played respectively by Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in the original. A key aspect of the prequel's story centers on Chris Shiherlis (played by Val Kilmer in the original), McCauley's right-hand man, as he tries to evade Detective Vincent and the LAPD after a bank robbery. Regarding the casting, no concrete name has been unveiled just yet, however, speculations are that Adam Driver, who struck a chord with Mann while working on "Ferrari", could feature. Also, co-star Shailene Woodley has expressed desire to star in the sequel. Mann had originally planned to begin shooting "Heat 2" by early 2025; hopefully, with the latest update, the ace filmmaker can assemble his team for shooting before the year runs out. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 .. As-New 1978 Ford Granada Is Today's Bring a Trailer Find
Here's a museum-quality everyday Ford from the late 1970s. It's essentially a time capsule, with only 47 miles on the odometer. It's not fancy or fast, but it does have the rarely seen four-speed manual transmission. In 1978, the fortunate few might have bought a new Porsche 928 or BMW 635CSi. The most enterprising purveyors of imported party stuffs might have picked up a newly bewinged Lamborghini Countach. Most Americans, though, had more mundane jobs and more mundane cars—their automotive excitement was maybe watching Starsky & Hutch drive through a fruit stand once a week. Over the years, while the Porsches and Bimmers got polished and pampered, the regular cars got used up and thrown away. But not all of them. Today's blast from the past at Bring a Trailer (which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos) is a 1978 Ford Granada two-door, and it only has 47 miles on the odometer. It was reportedly driven home from the dealer then stored by its original owner for decades, a highly unusual garage-queen life for a deeply ordinary machine. But by surviving in shockingly original condition, it has aged, unexpectedly, into something quite special. Ford launched the Granada in 1975 as a slight step up from the Maverick compact sedan, a car for the someone who dreamed of an LTD but didn't relish the thought of putting gas in that two-foot-longer mastodon. With its humble Maverick underpinings, the Granada was not the choice for disco-listening groovy cats, but a sort of dadmobile for people who just wanted to listen to Perry Como while they drove to work at the Acme stapler factory. If you wanted big-car luxury, you could get a laundry list of options on the Granada. Or you could not. This example is slightly unusual for having the four-on-the-floor manual transmission, but it doesn't have many extras besides an AM/FM stereo with an eight-track player. It's finished in black with red vinyl upholstery and sports 14-inch steel wheels with wheel covers. The engine is the 4.1-liter Thriftpower inline-six, which, with 88 horsepower on tap, is clearly far more thrift than power. The tires were replaced three years ago. Ford's advertising made an attempt to burnish the Granada's image by challenging consumers to compare it to a similarly sized Mercedes. "Can you tell its looks from a $20,000 Mercedes-Benz?" Uh, yes. Obviously. Ford's plant was cranking these things out as fast as it could, and the late 1970s were not what you'd call a time of peak quality control. Still, the Granada offered some luxuries at less than a quarter the cost of the Merc. With only 47 miles on the odometer, this Ford is a time capsule of regular everyday life toward the end of the 1970s. It'd be ideal for anyone filming a period movie or TV series, or perhaps as part of a museum display on the Carter administration. Or you could roll right up to your local Cars & Coffee event and show up all the gathered vintage BMWs and Porsches with a car of a type no one has seen in decades. A perfect, low-mileage Granada with a four-speed manual transmission? Just throw a coupla Perry Como eight-tracks in the glovebox, and it'll be like you're right back in the late '70s. The auction ends on February 11. You Might Also Like Car and Driver's 10 Best Cars through the Decades How to Buy or Lease a New Car Lightning Lap Legends: Chevrolet Camaro vs. Ford Mustang!
