Principal Secretary, State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, has said that Kenya's journey towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC) is anchored on strong community systems and a renewed focus on preventive and primary healthcare. She made the remarks while speaking at the Nation Health Summit, a platform that brought together health leaders, partners, and stakeholders to reflect on the country's UHC progress. The summit provided an opportunity to review key milestones, share lessons learned, and explore strategies to sustain the gains made so far. 'Kenya's UHC journey is built on the foundation of strong community systems. By prioritizing primary healthcare, empowering our Community Health Promoters, and promoting preventive health, we are laying the groundwork for a resilient and inclusive health system that leaves no one behind,' she said. The discussions at the summit emphasized the critical role of disease prevention, personal and environmental hygiene, and the impact of Community Health Promoters (CHPs), who are now trained, equipped, and collecting real-time data across communities. Kenya to host World Health Expo 2025
Last evening marked official launch of activities leading to the World Health Expo Nairobi 2025 (WHX2025), a groundbreaking platform, organized in partnership with Informa Markets and line ministries that will position Kenya as a continental leader in healthcare transformation. Speaking during the launch, Principal Secretary State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni noted that the WHX2025 scheduled for October 2025,is a catalyst for innovation, investment, and partnerships that will accelerate our journey toward Universal Health Coverage (UHC). "With the support of key stakeholders—health professionals, investors, and innovators, this landmark expo will showcase cutting-edge solutions, drive strategic collaborations, and unlock Kenya's healthcare potential." Kenya is hosting the Regional Health Promotion Conference (RHPC 2025) under the theme 'Empowering Communities for Inclusive Universal Health Coverage through an Intersectional Approach.' The conference brings together experts, policymakers, and stakeholders to advance health promotion as a key driver of Universal Health Coverage (UHC). While officially opening the conference, Principal Secretary for the State Department for Public Health and Professional Standards, Mary Muthoni, emphasized the critical role of health promotion in preventing diseases, reducing healthcare costs, and ensuring healthier communities. She highlighted the government's deliberate shift from a curative to a preventive healthcare model, citing the deployment of 107,831 Community Health Promoters across all 47 counties and the establishment of Primary Care Networks to enhance healthcare access at the grassroots. "Health promotion is not just a strategy; it is the foundation of Universal Health Coverage. By investing in community-driven healthcare solutions, Kenya is empowering individuals and families to take charge of their health. Through multi-sectoral collaboration, innovative financing, and digital health solutions, we are making healthcare more accessible, affordable, and inclusive,' said PS Muthoni.
