Min reviews rabi paddy procurement
Bhubaneswar: Food supplies and consumer welfare minister Krushna Chandra Patra Thursday conducted a comprehensive review of the state's Rabi paddy procurement operations today, emphasising the need to expedite the process.
According to State Food Supply Corporation managing director K. Sudarshan Chakraborty, the current Rabi season saw the procurement of 6.06 lakh metric tonnes of paddy from around 88,000 farmers. The govt already disbursed around Rs 1,566 crore towards minimum support price and input assistance.
During the review meeting, Patra directed officials to ensure adequate protection of farmers' produce at mandis and called for swift action against any reported irregularities in the procurement process.
"The govt is committed to safeguarding farmers' interests," said Patra.
The minister also announced plans to modernise and expand the capacity of 214 existing warehouses across the state. A grievance redressal mechanism will be strengthened to address farmers' complaints promptly. The review meeting also covered the progress of new corporation building construction projects.
