A London-bound Air India plane carrying 242 passengers and crew crashed into a residential area (Meghani nagar) moments after taking off at 1:38 p.m. from the Ahmedabad airport on Thursday (June 11, 2025) afternoon. Several casualties are feared. The Air India flight was a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner twin jet carrying a total of 230 passengers and 12 crew members with Pilot in Command Sumit Sabharwal and co-Pilot Clive Kunder. The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 13.38 p.m., was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals. Here are a few pictures from the accident site from our staff photographer: Reports from the State Medical Association notes that the London-bound aircraft crashed directly on the BJ Medical College UG hostel mess, in Meghani Nagar, Ahmedabad. A part of the plane stuck in the building of the BJ hostel, which has suffered damages. 'Around 400 CISF personnel who were deployed at Ahmedabad airport pressed into rescue operations,' a CISF official said. The flight, which departed from Ahmedabad at 13:38, was carrying 242 passengers and crew members on board the Boeing 787-8 aircraft. Of these, 169 are Indian nationals, 53 are British nationals, 1 Canadian national and 7 Portuguese nationals. Western Railway Medical Team and RPF personnel have been deployed for assisting in rescue operations. The plane crash came as a sudden shock to students and several MBBS students were admitted to hospitals. The Federation of All India Medical Associations (FAIMA) claimed that students were present at the hostel mess at the time of the plane crash. All flight operations have been temporarily suspended at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport here following the crash of an Air India flight to London.
