I scrolled through 55,000+ deals at Nordstrom's winter sale — here are my top 12

I'm not going to sugarcoat it — the weather is miserable. And with Punxsutawney Phil and Staten Island Chuck giving us mixed signals, no one knows when spring weather is coming. So, what's a gal to do when going outside is simply not an option? As someone who shops by trade (and hobby), I'm digging through deals — specifically the deals at the Nordstrom winter sale. Ah, I love a Nordstrom deal. The retailer's annual winter sale is stocked with unreal discounts on top-selling goodies — all up to 60% off. Whether you're looking for markdowns on cozy socks, blankets, sweaters and coats to get you through the rest of winter or want to get a head start on spring fashion shopping, the sale picks are endless. Take, for example, this perfect-for-spring Tory Burch tote for nearly $100 off. Or what about this Le Creuset sauteuse oven for over 40% off (down to $200 from $350)? There are even A+ discounts on Valentine's Day gifts (just make sure you order by noon ET on February 12 and select expedited shipping). I know that this many deals (55,216 to be exact) can be, well, overwhelming. So, I used my shopping editor expertise and gathered the best Nordstrom Winter Sale deals to shop. Plus, if you're a Nordy Club member, you can score 5-10x loyalty points. Not a member? It's free to sign up! Okay, now that that's settled — it's time to shop. Scientists cast doubt on famous US groundhog's weather forecasts

Scientists have cast doubt on the reliability of America's most celebrated rodent forecaster -- whose apparent knack of predicting how long winter will last forms a hallowed tradition in the United States. Punxsutawney Phil, made famous by the 1993 film "Groundhog Day," attracts thousands of onlookers every February 2 to the Pennsylvania town that he takes his name from. The US state's tradition of using a large rodent to predict the seasons dates back to the Pennsylvania Dutch belief that if a groundhog left its burrow and saw its shadow, it would scurry back inside and winter would go on for six more weeks. But professional forecasters have warned ahead of Phil's appearance this Sunday that his prediction is likely to be way off the mark. The US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) has concluded that only 35 percent of Phil's forecasts have proved to be accurate -- placing him at a lowly 17th compared to other rodent forecasters. Staten Island Chuck, a New York-based groundhog, tops the rankings with an impressive 85 percent accuracy rate on his forecasts. Phil and his predecessors, also called Phil, have been forecasting since 1887. cha/bjt/acb
