Patna: State urban development and housing department (UDHD) on Thursday approved construction of two guest houses (dharmashalas), including one for VVIPs, for Rs 20 crore at Sultanganj for 'kanwariyas', said deputy CM Samrat Choudhary on Friday.
Lakhs of Shiva devotees, who start their pilgrimage from Sultanganj to Deoghar in neighbouring Jharkhand carrying Ganga water, particularly during the Hindu month of Shrawan, will get the facility, he added.
Joint secretary, UDHD, on Thursday wrote to chief general manager, south Bihar subdivision of Buidco, requesting him to initiate the construction of the multistorey dharmashalas at Namami Gange Ghat in Sultanganj municipal council area.
Choudhary said some of the rooms in the VIP dharmashala will also be available for the general public. "More than 1.5 lakh devotees of Lord Shiva come to Sultanganj every day during the holy month of Shrawan," he said, adding an administrative approval has been given to spend over Rs 11 crore on the construction of "Janata dharmashala" near Namami Gange Ghat and over Rs 8 crore for the super-special guest house.
Choudhary said the CGM had requested the administration in March for providing the estimate and granting approval for the construction of two multistorey dharmashalas in Sultanganj.
