Steelers to commemorate 50th year of Terrible Towel in 2025
This article originally appeared The 2025 season will be a special one for the Pittsburgh Steelers as the Terrible Towel will celebrate its 50th birthday. President Art Rooney II says fans should be prepared to commemorate it. Advertisement 'We'll have a little celebration during the season for the 50th year of the Terrible Towel,' Rooney said. The Terrible Towel was created by legendary sports broadcaster Myron Cope on Dec. 27, 1975. He was attempting to excite the fan base ahead of a playoff game when he came up with the idea, imploring fans to bring their yellow dish towels to the game and wave them with pride. It has since become an icon and the perfect backdrop to some of the biggest moments in Pittsburgh Steelers history. Steelers AFC Champion defensive end Ray Seals dies at 59
This article originally appeared on Former Pittsburgh Steelers defensive end Ray Seals has died at the age of 59, according to Seals was one of the rare few NFL players to skip college football, going straight from Henninger High School in Syracuse, New York to the minor-league Syracuse Express of the Empire Football League. Advertisement He played two seasons for the Express before being picked up by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 1989. Seals spent two seasons as a reserve for the Bucs and three as a part-time starter before joining the Steelers in 1994. In three seasons in Pittsburgh, Seals started 27 games, including all 16 regular season games in 1995, and then another three in playoffs as the Steelers went all the way to Super Bowl XXX. Steelers re-sign critical backup at offensive tackle
This article originally appeared on The Pittsburgh Steelers have re-signed backup tackle Calvin Anderson to a two-year contract, the team announced on Monday. Anderson, 29, joined the Steelers during the 2024 season, after tackle Troy Fautanu was lost for the Steelers to a knee injury. The Steelers immediately plugged Anderson into their swing backup tackle slot, and he remained there until he was placed on the injured reserve list with a groin injury on Dec. 12. Anderson was activated in time to appear in the Wild Card playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens. Advertisement In total, Anderson played in four regular-season games, playing in 11 snaps of offense for the Steelers, and also played in 29 snaps in the Wild Card loss — all of which came at left tackle. Steelers Wine and Dine Alabama QB Jalen Milroe Before Pro Day
This article originally appeared on The top offensive brass of the Pittsburgh Steelers is in Tuscaloosa, Alabama for the Crimson Tide's pro day on Wednesday, and Tuesday night, several of the Steelers staff dine with Alabama quarterback and 2025 NFL Draft prospect Jalen Milroe. General manager Omar Khan, head coach Mike Tomlin and quarterbacks coach Tom Arth were all in attendance at dinner with Milroe, according to a report by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network. The Steelers always attend the Alabama pro day, and they often try to get as many of the team's top prospects to dinner the night before as possible, but Arth's inclusion makes it pretty clear the Steelers are in Alabama to see Milroe. George Pickens gets raise for on-field performance
This article originally appeared on Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver George Pickens has earned a raise for the 2025 season. Pickens will get a bonus as part of the NFL proven performance escalator program. Pickens will now earn $3.656 million in 2025. As part of the original rookie contract he signed with the Steelers, he would have only earned $3.406 million, so he earned a raise of $250,000. The PPE program is designed to reward players that produce at a high level while still on their rookie contracts. The PPE program has three levels, the highest if a player is selected as a Pro Bowler, the second if they play at least 55% of the team's offensive or defensive snaps in each of their first three seasons, and thirdly if they play over 35% of the team's offensive or defensive snaps in two of their first three seasons.
