Gov. Shapiro: No state money for new Steelers, Eagles stadiums
This story originally appeared on The Pittsburgh Steelers' lease at Acrisure Stadium is up at the end of the 2030 season, just five years in the future. But if the Steelers are thinking about getting state money for a new stadium when their current lease ends, Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro has other ideas. Advertisement Speaking at the NASCAR race at Pocono Raceway in Long Pond, Pa., on Sunday, Shapiro said that he has concerns about the Pennsylvania budget in light of federal cuts under the administration of President Donald Trump, and doesn't see sports stadiums as a spending priority. 'I'm very worried about the overall budget,' Shapiro said via the Associated Press. 'I'm very worried about the overall economic situation given the federal cuts. You want to balance investing in tourism, investing in sports, investing in great arenas and facilities, with making sure that you're also investing those dollars in things that Pennsylvanians need most.' Report: Aaron Rodgers had throwing session with DK Metcalf over the weekend
This story initially appeared on A new step has taken place in the Aaron Rodgers saga. According to Mike Garafolo of NFL Network, Rodgers and Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf had a throwing session over the weekend at UCLA. Advertisement 'Over the weekend at UCLA, he threw to DK Metcalf. They did have a throwing session. The two of them together, according to sources, informed of that workout,' Garafolo said on Good Morning Football. 'So Rodgers going through the process and checking all the boxes. And I assume it was a good throwing session there with him and Metcalf. So we'll see if that leads to him saying, you know what? Yeah, I'm fully in. I like that guy. I like that target right there.' Aaron Rodgers is reportedly leaning on signing with the Steelers, but that hasn't come to pass yet. Jeremy Fowler of ESPN reports that the Steelers are willing to wait on Rodgers' looming decision and remain optimistic. Click here to read more from our partners at Sports Now Group Pittsburgh. Aaron Rodgers visiting Steelers training facility
This story initially appeared on Free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers is visiting the Pittsburgh Steelers on Friday, a team source confirmed to Steelers Now. The news of his visit was first reported by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Rodgers and the Steelers have been at a contract stalemate for a week and a half, with Pittsburgh among the teams to offer the veteran former MVP a contract, but Rodgers seemingly making no decision about where he wants to play his 21st NFL season in 2025. Rodgers visiting with the Steelers does not mean a contract is imminent, though him making the trek to Pittsburgh obviously means that he thinks it's possible. It has not been clear exactly why Rodgers has been unwilling to make a decision for so long. He reportedly has also been considered a higher-priced offer from the New York Giants, as well as chasing an opportunity with the Minnesota Vikings that may or may not even exist. T.J. Watt expected to receive historic contract extension
This story originally appeared on Pittsburgh Steelers star linebacker T.J. Watt is entering the final year of his contract in 2025. With that said, it's fair to assume the 2021 NFL Defensive Player of the Year will receive another massive contract extension this offseason and one that most believe will shatter the record. San Francisco 49ers defensive end Nick Bosa is currently the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL, earning $34 million per year. Tony Pauline of Sportskeeda thinks Watt will surpass that and then some. 'T.J. Watt of the Pittsburgh Steelers is also in the final year of his four-year, $112 million contract he signed in 2022,' Pauline writes. 'Watt has combined for 30.5 sacks the past two seasons, winning Pro Bowl and various All-Pro honors each year. Sources say an extension now would award Watt somewhere in the range of $35 to $37 million annually.' That is quite the price tag of the 30-year-old who is coming off a bit of a down year in 2024, during which he registered the third least sacks in a season (11.5) in his career. The other two seasons were his rookie year (seven sacks) and 2022 (5.5 sacks) when he played in just 10 games due to a knee injury. Report: ‘No Chance' Jaguars trade Trevor Lawrence to Steelers
This story originally appeared on The Pittsburgh Steelers may have called about trading for Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence, but don't expect such a move to happen any time soon. Hours after it was first reported that the Steelers had inquired about the possibility of trading for the former No. 1 overall draft pick, ESPN reporter Michael DiRocco reported that a Jaguars source told him there is 'no chance' that the Jaguars are moving on from their starting quarterback, one year after signing him to a massive contract, with DiRocco's source calling the notion 'ridiculous.' DiRocco did not refute the idea that the Steelers had asked about Lawrence, only stated that the Jaguars never seriously considered the idea of trading him.
