Two taken to hospital after 3-car crash on Route 1 in Mass.
Two people were taken to a hospital following a three-car crash in Newburyport Saturday afternoon, according to the city fire department.
Police and firefighters responded to the crash at the intersection of Route 1 and Pond Street shortly after 4 p.m., the Newburyport Fire Department said in a press release. At the scene, first responders found that a Tesla Model 3, a Toyota 4Runner and a Toyota Corolla had collided.
Firefighters used the jaws of life cutting tool to quickly free the Tesla driver from their car, the fire department said. They also used an electric vehicle emergency plug to keep the Tesla from accidentally starting or moving.
Two people were taken by ambulance to local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, the fire department said. Police and firefighters cleared the scene within two hours.
'This was an excellent response from all involved. The quick work of our crews in efficiently utilizing rescue tools ensured that all involved in the crash received the highest quality of care,' Fire Chief Stephen Bradbury said in the release.
Police are investigating what caused the crash.
