One person hospitalized after receiving burns during an apartment fire
PEORIA, Ill. (WMBD) — One person was hospitalized after receiving 'significant burns' during an apartment fire Saturday evening.
Firefighters from the Peoria Fire Department were called at 5:45 p.m. Saturday, June 7, to the 4000 block of Knollridge Lane to a report of a structure fire, Battalion Chief Stephen Rada said.
When firefighters arrived at the apartment complex, they found heavy smoke coming from the basement level, he said.
When they entered the apartment, firefighters found the fire in the kitchen/hallway of the apartment, he said.
People who lived in the building had evacuated, and one had received 'significant burns and was taken to a local hospital,' he said.
No one else was injured and everyone was able to return to their apartments, Rada said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, but damages are estimated at $25,000, he said.
