73-year-old man killed in semi vs. SUV crash in rural Freeport
FREEPORT, Ill. (WTVO) — A 73-year-old man was killed Thursday after his SUV was hit by a semi at an intersection in rural Freeport. The Stephenson County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene of the crash, at Lamm Road and Baileyville Road, around 3:02 p.m. Police said the victim was piloting a 2019 Dodge Journey eastbound when he disregarded a stop sign and was hit by the oncoming semi, which was headed northbound on Baileyville Road. The man, who lived in Orland Hills, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was uninjured. Authorities said the crash is under investigation by the Illinois State Police Traffic Reconstruction Unit. No charges have been announced. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Stephenson County woman killed in fatal crash on Illinois Route 26
ORANGEVILLE, Ill. (WTVO) — A Stephenson County woman is dead after a fatal crash Wednesday afternoon on Illinois Route 26. Her 15-year-old passenger was rushed to the hospital. According to the Stephenson County Sheriff's Office, Shania Cantrell, 26, of Orangeville, was driving a black 2008 Ford Escape and attempting to turn southbound on IL Rt. 26 from Old Illinois Route 26 around 12:20 p.m. when her vehicle was struck by a red 2020 Ford F150 pickup truck, driven by a 41-year-old man from Argyle, Wisconsin. Authorities said Cantrell was pronounced dead at the scene. Her 15-year-old passenger was treated for minor injuries at the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured in the crash. The crash is being investigated by the Illinois State Police Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit. No charges have been announced. Authorities said an autopsy on Cantrell is pending.
