New political party launched in Black Country
A new "community-led" political party has been launched in Black Country Party was formed by six borough councillors who currently make up the Dudley Independent Group, known as 'the Diggers'. They said they will aim to focus on local issues that affect working class people in the area at its launch on Friday. The party includes councillors Karen Westwood, Steve Edwards, Matt Cook, Peter Drake, Karl Denning and Pete Lowe. Wards Lye and Stourbridge North, Brierley Hill and Wordsley South, Brockmoor and Pensnett, Castle and Priory, and Coseley will now be represented by the Black Country Party on Dudley elected leader is Lowe, with Westwood elected as deputy who resigned from the Labour Party in January after being a member for 41 years, said: "To say I am proud to launch The Black Country Party is an understatement. "We have six working class councillors who have had enough of a failed party system which puts Westminster and personal ambition before people. "We believe politics needs to change and ordinary people need to have their voices heard."Both councillors said they had previously left the Labour Party due to cuts to the winter fuel allowance and "removal of support for vulnerable people".Westwood said: "I knew we had to be the voice for local people and offer something different. That is why we are launching the Black Country Party."A joint statement from the councillors said the government should be investing in local communities. Mannatech Premieres Powerful New Documentary on Marathon Legend Steve Edwards
"The Long Run" showcases a world-record journey powered by Glycan Replenishment Therapy and unmatched determination. FLOWER MOUND, Texas, May 21, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Global health and wellness innovator Mannatech is proud to premiere Steve Edwards: The Long Run, an 11-minute short documentary chronicling the unbelievable true story of Steve Edwards—an everyday man turned endurance icon. With over 1,000 official marathons completed in record-setting average times, Edwards' legacy is one of resilience, quiet determination and the pursuit of human potential. The film debuts globally today, May 21, and is followed by an in-depth interview with Steve Edwards himself following the documentary. It is available to watch free at (registration required) and on the company's Facebook page, beginning at 7:30 p.m. CT. From a modest upbringing in Coventry, England, to three Guinness World Records and a final race that brought a crowd to tears, Steve's journey defies logic. Despite genetic challenges that made endurance athletics significantly harder, Steve pushed beyond the odds to set a new world record for running 1,000 official marathons in a faster average finish time than anyone else on the planet—averaging 3 hours, 21 minutes, and 47 seconds per race. Steve credits Mannatech's Glycan Replenishment Therapy with helping him recover faster, train harder and extend his running longevity well into his 60s.* "These products were a game-changer," he says in the documentary's companion interview. "Better recovery meant better training, and that meant better performance. The real impact showed up in my longevity—that's why I was able to go from 500 marathons to 1,000." *His daily regimen includes Ambrotose Life® powder and other foundational glycan-based supplements, which he says helped support his immune system and remain resilient across decades of high-level competition.* Landen Fredrick, CEO of Mannatech, shared the company's pride in presenting the story: "Steve's commitment to excellence—despite circumstances that would stop most people in their tracks—reflects the values we hold close at Mannatech. We're honored to have played even a small role in his journey and proud to bring this inspiring story to the world." Produced by acclaimed filmmaker Jim Fabio of True Blue Creative, The Long Run blends emotion, science and storytelling into a moving celebration of what's possible when nutrition, mindset and grit align. The premiere is followed by an exclusive interview where Steve breaks down his nutritional protocol, training mindset and the overlooked importance of glycans. Powys County Times Camera Club round-up for this week
Welcome back to this week's County Times Camera Club round-up. It's safe to say the sun has certainly brought everyone out and we have seen some beautiful pictures shared on our Facebook page over the last few days. So without further ado, here's a selection of what our snappers have been sharing. First up, we have Jane Vaughan-Jones, who took a striking photograph of the 'Light of Peace' beacon in Montgomery which had been lit. Next, we have one of two from Steve Edwards this week, starting with a silohetted image of two Canadian geese giving a dusk fly-by, while his second was a one legged heron which he also spotted at Llyn Coed Y Dinas in Welshpool. Continuing with the animal theme, we have some lambs striking a pose in Dernol Valley, Llangurig pictured by Michelle Price, while Nip Janey Nash spotted some cows on her walk saying helloooo! And Agata Er took a picture of a red kite near Newtown. There were plenty of pictures of ducks this week, including a pair captured by Steven Weekly who are having a sit-down by the lake. Mel Evans shared a picture of Geoffrey the Lab who was busy waiting to explore a woodland, and Paul Haggan shared an incredible photograph of a grass snack swimming in Penarth. Meanwhile, Rob Jackson took an incredible close-up shot of a demoiselle at Llyn Coed Y Dinas. Elaine Davies captured a sunrise at Llangyniew, and Jess Tillier shared some lovely snaps of flowers captioning them, 'The Beauty of Nature'. We have a moody view of storm passing over Newtown taken by David Lister, and wrapping things up we have a reflection in the River Severn at Buttington which was taken by Kath Ray.
