Greenville Utilities Commission starting ‘Operation Spring Cleaning'
GREENVILLE, NC (WNCT) — Starting Sunday, April 13, Greenville Utilities Commission is beginning, 'Operation Spring Cleaning'. This is their preventative maintenance program to make sure GUC customers continue to receive high-quality water.
They say the full process to clean every area will take about eight weeks. Sections will be cleaned from Sunday through Friday from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. to minimize inconvenience for customers. The cleaning will be done in different areas, or zones, each week.
'We do our spring cleaning so that we can clean out the pipes. You get things accumulating on the inside of pipes throughout the year, a little bit of rust and some bacterial growth that is killed by the chemicals in the treatment process in the water that flows through, so they don't pose a danger. They just start to build up on the inside of the pipes so we clean them out, so you continue to get clean water,' said Steve Hawley, the Communications Manager at Greenville Utilities Commission.
You can reach out to Greenville Utilities Commission if you have questions about this cleaning.
