Stockman Steaks provides Australians a fresher, more direct way to buy meat that is pasture raised and Bovaer 10-free
A new frozen meat delivery service has hit the Australian market offering shoppers a fresher "farm to table" alternative to buying directly from major retailers. Stockman Steaks delivers frozen meat products including beef, lamb, chicken, pork, veal and bacon straight from Australian farmers to kitchen tables. Many Australians are only just discovering that the meat they have been purchasing was sent to their retail location frozen and then defrosted in a backroom. They have been freezing it a second time without realising this. The service from Stockman Steaks bypasses the middleman role that major retailers play, who receive frozen meat from farmers that was then sent to wholesalers before defrosting it and then selling it onto consumers. Delivery is also free and direct to its customers' doors. The company provides beef that has the added health advantage of being free from Bovaer 10 - a feed additive that reduces methane production in a cow's stomach. While Bovaer 10 was designed primarily for cattle in feed lots, Stockman Steaks relies on a natural, pasture-raised approach. Pasture-raised meat is known to offer various benefits compared to cattle raised in feedlots, including producing meat with higher levels of essential nutrients, a healthier ratio of Omega 3 to Omega 6 fatty acids and better flavour. As well as promoting animal welfare, pasture-raised meat is known as a healthier choice for consumers, while contributing to a more sustainable food system. The animals Stockman Steaks sources from are raised on grass and roam freely on open pastures. "Our animals live on vast, open grass fields, where they eat fresh grass, breathe clean air, and experience life as nature intended," it said. "None of our cattle are subjected to factory conditions, where mass production aims to cut costs. We take pride in raising meat ethically, so our customers can feel confident in purchasing from us." The company said its 14-day wet-aged stakes "deliver a restaurant quality taste and experience when cooked at home". "Previously, enjoying such fine quality meat, meant dining at an exclusive restaurant, but now you can savour a restaurant-quality meal right at your own table.," it said. "We're set up nationally to ensure our customers receive locally sourced meat from their own region. We don't believe in shipping meat from one end of the country to the other. "Everything is produced in world-class accredited facilities by master butchers curating the finest quality cuts of meat. "You can trust that you're getting the best." Stockman Steaks' direct delivery to homes means consumers can avoid refreezing their meat. "Many Australian consumers are unaware that most meat reaches retailers frozen, then gets thawed before being displayed. If you refreeze it at home, you're essentially freezing it twice," it said. "One of the key reasons we chose to deliver meat directly to our customers was to eliminate this unnecessary step." Its meat is delivered after being flash frozen and vacuum sealed "at the peak of freshness". "There's no need for modified gases that are widely injected into packaging in major retailers to extend the shelf life because our products retain their natural quality," it said. Stockman Steaks refuses to use Bovaer 10 in their cattle feed - a chemical designed to help cut methane emissions into the atmosphere. Major retailers in Australia are selling meat from cattle that have been fed the Bovaer 10 additive after it was introduced in Australia in 2022. The International Energy Agency has reported methane is responsible for around 30 per cent of the rise in global temperatures since the Industrial Revolution. But Stockman Steaks have chosen to take a different path - one that it feels honours the natural and regenerative cycles of its pasture-raised cattle. "Bovaer 10 was designed for cattle raised in intensive feedlot systems where methane emissions are higher due to grain-heavy diets," the company said. "At Stockman Steaks, our cattle graze freely on open pastures, consuming natural grasses. This approach promotes healthier animals and doesn't rely on synthetic additives to modify natural processes." The company offer a range of healthier meat options besides the classic steaks, lamb and chicken fare to fire up the BBQ. Its "clean sausages" that come gluten and dairy free with no sausage meal have a "real meaty flavour and texture" and its mince and burgers have no binders or fillers. Just one single ingredient, either pure beef or pure lamb and nothing else.
