Stonycreek Garbage Service rates increse
Garbage rates for several Glenn County residents are going up by 10 percent as approved by the county's board of supervisors during their May 6 meeting.
Since 2007, Glenn County has maintained a refuse collection franchise agreement with Stonycreek Garbage Service for waste collection services in the more remote areas on the west side of the county, including the community of Elk Creek.
The agreement grants Stonycreek Garbage Service exclusive rights to collect and dispose of all industrial, residential, and commercial refuse within their designated franchise area.
Stonycreek Garbage Service requested a rate increase for the next fiscal year starting July 1.
The last approved rate adjustment took effect on Jan. 1, 2021, and since that time, according to county documents, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the West Region - as published by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - has increased by 19.78 percent.
Following a public hearing, the board voted to approve the garbage service rate increase.
The increase is as follows: 45-gallon containers increase $3 per month; 1 cubic yard container $6 per month; and 2 cubic yard container $11.50 per month.
