Walmart remodeling over 650 stores in 2025: See list of some locations receiving makeover
Walmart is bringing "stores of the future" to most U.S. states in 2025. The Bentonville, Arkansas-headquartered company announced its plans for updating and improving locations across 47 states as part of its "Stores of the Future" project, which will see more than 650 locations be remodeled this year. In addition to the remodels, the retail giant plans to build or convert more than 150 stores, it initially said in a January news release. Besides making the shopping experience more streamlined for consumers, Walmart said its new stores will be more sustainable due to their use of energy-efficient equipment and lighting, as well as electric vehicle fast-charging stations. Here's what we know so far about Walmart's remodeling plans. In an announcement about the remodeling, Walmart said it will implement service and infrastructure changes to make shopping more convenient and enjoyable through "improved layouts, expanded product selections and innovative technology." The brand also said the projects will create "tens of thousands of jobs" and entail "investing" in American communities. The major changes coming to most renovated stores will include: New look: Bigger and "bolder" signage and displays. More selection: Expanded departments with new items. Expanded online pickup and delivery: To accommodate the increasing number of online orders. Pharmacy layout: Wider aisles, new private screening rooms and private checkout shared a list of stores that will be remodeled across five U.S. states: North Carolina, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. While more than 650 locations across 47 states and Puerto Rico will ultimately be updated, a Walmart spokesperson told USA TODAY they could not share a full list of locations. Your local Walmart is in line for a $1million facelift - here is what is changing
Walmart stores are getting a massive facelift - and yours could be first on the list for a remodel. The mega-retailer unveiled its plans this week, noting that remodels will occur at 650 stores in 47 states in 2025. It is part of its 'Stores of the Future' project, aimed at bringing modern displays to its locations, expanding its online pickup and delivery services and offering more products. A spokesperson for Walmart told CoStar News that each of the remodels will cost more than $1 million. The remodels reportedly represent Walmart's efforts to hold onto higher-income shoppers who started visiting the stores more frequently during the pandemic to pick up more affordable groceries. Those shoppers could continue to buy at Walmart as concerns about the country's economic future has more families watching their spending. Noting the change, Walmart started to remodel its stores more than two years ago, and in doing so began spotlighting non-grocery merchandise such as clothing and home goods - just as competitor Target does. Walmart has also been making changes to its online shopping experience to try to compete with the nation's other mega-retailer, Amazon. According to Walmart, the remodels will include "big, bold signage" to better showcase its merchandise, new items and expanded departments, an expanded online pickup and delivery system to accommodate the rise in online shoppers, and changing its pharmacies to include wider aisles, private screening rooms and privacy checkout areas. "The work we're doing to expand our assortment is another reason for our growth, as more customers are finding what they're looking for," Walmart President and CEO Doug McMillon said during a Friday earnings call. Texas will see the largest number of stores receiving renovations, with 67 stores getting a makeover. California will get 56 remodels. Though a full list of Walmart stores receiving remodels is not available at this time, a partial list of the upcoming renovations has been reported by USA Today.

Walmart is remodeling over 650 stores across the US. Are any in Wisconsin?
Walmart plans to remodel more than 650 stores across most of the U.S. this year, including several in Wisconsin. The Badger State is one of 47 that will see renovations as part of Walmart's "Stores of the Future" project, USA TODAY reported. Planned changes include new signage, expanded departments, new pharmacy layouts and more, according to an April 23 press release. In addition to remodeling existing locations, Walmart also has plans to build or convert more than 150 stores. The retail giant has invested more than $560 million to upgrade locations across the state in the past five years, not including upcoming renovations, it said in the release. Here's what Wisconsin Walmart shoppers should know: Three stores across Wisconsin are included in planned remodels. Here's a list: Green Bay: 2440 W. Mason St. Menomonie: 180 Cedar Falls Road Plover: 250 Crossroads Road No. Stores will remain open while undergoing renovations, Mark Rickel, Walmart's director of corporate communications, told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel in an email. Walmart has announced that it will upgrade more than 650 stores across the US in 2025 as part of its "Stores of the Future" initiative. The goal? To make shopping faster, easier, and better for customers — all while helping the planet and creating new jobs. Updated stores will have more space and better systems to help customers get their items quickly, whether they choose home delivery or in-store pickup. In 2024, Walmart saw a 20% increase in online sales — marking its 11th straight quarter of e-commerce growth. The company says these remodels will help keep that momentum going, Bisnow said. Walmart has shared a list of over 100 store locations across North Carolina, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania that will be remodeled this year. States like Texas and California will see the most updates, with 67 and 56 stores, respectively. Each remodel is expected to cost millions and will include new product displays, expanded departments, and a wider range of items — all aimed at giving shoppers more options.
