Michelin-starred restaurant in San Francisco announces sudden closure

Osito, the Michelin-starred restaurant in San Francisco's Mission District known for its exclusive live-fire menu, will serve its final meal this Sunday. Chef Seth Stowaway, who opened the restaurant at 2875 18th St. in 2021 after several pandemic-related delays, confirmed Tuesday that the Mother's Day brunch will mark the end of the restaurant's run. 'We are proud of the restaurant that we created and grew from the ground up in 2021,' Stowaway said in a statement. 'Less than a year after opening, Osito won our first Michelin star and since day one, we've been proud of the food and service that we were able to provide our guests. Unfortunately, the economy in San Francisco does not always make it sustainable for restaurants and for that reason, we must close our doors.' Osito, which earned acclaim for its daily-changing $295 tasting menu cooked entirely over wood fire, was an innovative dining destination. The 3,000-square-foot space featured a communal table where guests could observe the cooking process. While Osito has undergone several transformations since its opening, including the addition of an à la carte menu and a new private dining room, Stowaway cited San Francisco's challenging economic climate as the primary reason for the restaurant's closure. Despite the decision, Stowaway expressed optimism about future ventures. 'I am full of joy that we are closing our doors at a time where we are busy and serving things we are super proud of,' he said. 'I'm sure you'll hear more from us in the future.'

Generate Key Takeaways A popular Michelin-starred restaurant in San Francisco is preparing to close its doors for good this weekend. Osito, which earned its one Michelin star in December 2022 after opening a little more than a year prior, will serve its final meal on Sunday, chef and owner Seth Stowaway told The San Francisco Standard. While Stowaway says the restaurant remained "very busy," its monthly rent of $15,000 became too expensive. "Our landlord just wasn't interested in making it work. They feel that the space is worth what it's worth,' Stowaway said. Offering "All live fire, coastal California dining" and "Bringing #firetotable cooking to the Mission" according to its Instagram profile, Osito began with a single tasting menu before expanding to four-course and a la carte options. 'Less than a year after opening, Osito won our first Michelin star and since day one, we've been proud of the food and service that we were able to provide our guests. While the restaurant had seen many iterations throughout the years, this was a great restaurant. Unfortunately, the economy in San Francisco does not always make it sustainable for restaurants and for that reason, we must close our doors. I'm sure you'll hear more from us in the future.' This Sunday, Osito will serve Mother's Day brunch to conclude its service, offering a menu of grilled pork loin with creamed collard greens, johnny cakes with roasted cherries and fermented honey, smoked corn cake and more. Just three weeks ago, Osito had announced it was bringing its brunch menu back for the spring and summer, but obviously plans have changed.

Oscar Isaac to Play Conman Juan Carlos Guzmán in Apple TV+ Series "Stowaway"

Yara Sameh Oscar Isaac is set to executive produce and star in the series 'Stowaway,' playing Juan Carlos Guzmán, who is internationally recognized as the 'greatest conman alive.' Apple TV+ closed a deal for the rights to the developing project following a competitive situation. Steven Levenson is attached to develop the series, set against a glittering backdrop of wealth and opulence, with the pilot directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon. 'Stowaway' centers on Guzmán, who, in 1993, was discovered as a wheel-well stowaway, nearly frozen onto the wheels of a cargo jet that landed in Miami. He claimed to be a 13-year-old orphan from Colombia left with no choice but to risk a better life in America, but in reality, Guzmán was 17 years old, with an aunt in Miami and a mother alive and worried sick about him in Bogota. As the logline explains, 'It was far from the last lie he would tell — or the most ridiculous.' Over the next two decades, Guzmán would gain international notoriety as he became the greatest conman alive today. 'Traveling the globe, donning one alias after another, he stole millions from the wealthy clientele staying at the world's most exclusive hotels,' the logline reads. 'Yet no matter how seamlessly he could assume the identity of his victims, Juan always found himself on the run — not just from Scotland Yard, the Las Vegas Police Department or Interpol, but from a past he seemed unable to fully escape.' Isaac will executive produce the project via his production company Mad Gene Media, alongside Elvira Lind and Gena Konstantinakos. Drew Comins (for Creative Engine), journalist Matthew Bremner, Levenson and Gomez-Rejon also serve as executive producers. Fifth Season will serve as the studio. The new series marks the second big sale for Mad Gene following the upcoming drama series 'Bananas,' starring Isaac and Ana de Armas and helmed by David O. Russell. The high-profile project also landed at Apple at the end of last year. read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Lifestyle Pistachio and Raspberry Cheesecake Domes Recipe Videos & Features Bouchra Dahlab Crowned Miss Arab World 2025 .. Cat reunited with owners years after going missing

An island couple have been reunited with their cat after it went missing for five years. Kathleen and Asa Harrison adopted Flora, the offspring of a feral cat, when she was a kitten. She quickly settled into life in Strond, Harris, with the Harrisons' dogs Cooper and Mist. Flora vanished in March 2020 and Kathleen feared she was gone for good until she turned up last month - 11 miles away in Miabhag nam Bàgh. After her travels, the wandering moggy now has the nicknam Flora the Explorer, which plays on the name of children's TV cartoon character Dora the Explorer. When she disappeared, the Harrisons initially thought she had jumped into the van of contractors who had been working on their house at the time. But checks of the vehicle and Scaladale, north Harris, where the workers made a stop before returning to Stornoway in Lewis found no sign of her. The couple spent days searching their local area and, over the years, Kathleen has received multiple messages about possible sightings but none turned out to be Flora. On 13 January she was contacted by a cousin about a social media post with an image attached of a cat found in Miabhag nam Bàgh. Kathleen said: "I looked at the post and it was the first time in all those years that I thought it could be Flora." More stories from the Highlands and Islands News from the Highlands and Islands on BBC Sounds Arriving at the house of the person who found the cat, Kathleen called out Flora's name and the cat ran up to her. A scan of the cat's microchip confirmed it was her. Kathleen said: "We just couldn't believe it was her. It took a while to sink in. "She was well looked after by the family that found her." Kathleen added: "The dogs went crazy, in a positive way. "Mist almost climbed into the cat carrier with her. We think they absolutely recognised her straight away. "From that moment, it was obvious to us that she's just so happy to be home. "She's made it." Flora has had to adjust to two cats the Harrisons got during her time away. Kathleen said: "She's very much the cat that left but just a bit more feisty but as the days go on that feisty-ness is reducing." She added: "If anybody has seen Flora over the years, we'd love to hear from you to try and piece together the journey that she's possibly been on."
