Lidl shoppers are buzzing as it brings back a nostalgic bakery treat we all loved at school and it's just 59p

School Cake has landed in the discount supermarket's famous bakery aisle - and it looks just like everyone's favourite school dinner treat. A slice costs 59p and it's in Lidl stores across the country until June 11. Shoppers shared their delight at the new find on the Facebook group Snack Reviews. One person said they "need to try these" while another wrote: "Shut the front door." Another added: "I need a Lidl trip." But others said the treat doesn't look quite the same as the ones they had at school. One shopper said: "Doesn't look much like traditional old school cake, that's more of a butter cream on top rather than icing." Another said they remembered their school cake having a pink custard topping. What else is new in the Lidl bakery aisle? Lidl is famous for its bakery section - and for good reason. Why do Aldi and Lidl have such fast checkouts IF you've ever shopped in Aldi or Lidl then you'll probably have experienced its ultra-fast checkout staff. Aldi's speedy reputation is no mistake, in fact, the supermarket claims that its tills are 40 per cent quicker than rivals. It's all part of Aldi's plan to be as efficient as possible - and this, the budget shop claims, helps keep costs low for shoppers. Efficient barcodes on packaging means staff are able to scan items as quickly as possible, with the majority of products having multiple barcodes to speed up the process. It also uses 'shelf-ready' packaging which keeps costs low when it comes to replenishing stock. Other retro snacks coming back Retro-style snacks have been making a comeback recently and supermarkets have been taking advantage of it. Mars Wrigley recently brought back Opal Fruits, an iconic sweet from the 80s. The sweets had been axed 27 years ago but they're now back in store at Sainsbury's, Tesco and Morrisons. Aero has also started selling Strawberry Flavour Melts, which are based on a strawberry flavoured Aero first launched in the 1970s. Last month, Tesco turned the clock back to 1995 by bringing out a range of iconic products in their retro packaging. Shoppers were able to grab classic items like Robinsons, Wagon Wheels and Rocky Bars all in their original packaging.

Aldi shoppers going wild over ‘banging' bakery item that costs just 90p
'Tastes just like a Solero in bun form,' claims one Aldi customer, in response to a snap of a new product that's hit the budget supermarket's shelves. The Specially Selected Passion Fruit Curd Buns are being hyped up as the latest 'obsession' for summer by the retailer. Shoppers can now buy the tropical treat from Aldi in a pack of two for £1.79 (90p each) and they are exactly what you'd expect – iced buns filled with a tangy passion fruit-flavoured curd and topped with a vibrant yellow and white icing. But if you aren't a fruit fan, don't worry as there's also a new chocolate version of the baked good available too. A closer look at the passionfruit buns was shared by New Foods UK on social media and food lovers have been going wild over them. On Instagram, a user named @hannahwellington_ said: 'These look unreal. Bet they taste like [a] passionfruit martini.' While on Facebook Katie Toomey wrote: 'If they are anything like the lemon ones they'll be amazing.' Janet Goff agreed, saying: 'The lemon ones are scrum, so I bet these are too!' Several people had also tried the new product already and had rave reviews to share, with @begum_bakes commenting: 'Can confirm, these are banging.' Similarly, @alicermercer posted: 'I've tried these, they taste just like a Solero in bun form.' And Kerry Murphy added: 'They are absolutely delicious.' The chocolate version hasn't been quite as well received online though, with some branding them 'awful', 'stale' and 'disappointing'. If the buns aren't for you, then you might want to head to rival supermarket Lidl instead. That's because the retailer recently re-launched its beloved Cheesecake Brownie which has been hailed 'the best thing ever' to come out of the shop. It offers a 'berry twist' with its creamy, fruity icing atop soft, sugar-dusted dough, making it the perfect choice for those with sweet tooth. What's more, it only costs 79p.
