Stray Kids launch K-pop takeover at Oracle Park in San Francisco

The streets around Oracle Park morphed into a mini K-pop bazaar ahead of South Korean boy band Stray Kids' first stadium concert in the Bay Area. Thousands of fervent fans began converging on the home of the San Francisco Giants well before sunrise on Wednesday, May 28, camping out for a chance to see the global K-pop sensation perform later tonight. Many even lined up for hours to secure official merchandise at Bar Via, a nearby cocktail lounge, which was transformed into a pop-up shop selling band gear. The concert, part of Stray Kids' DominAte world tour, is expected to be a more than two-hour spectacle featuring fireworks, synchronized choreography and a 30-song set list. The tour is in support of Stray Kids' latest album, 'Skzhop Hiptape,' released in December. It kicked off with a historic performance at Seattle's T-Mobile Park on Saturday, May 24, where the group became the first K-pop act to sell out the stadium. 'A lot of Stray Kids' songs felt like an all-out assault on the senses,' the Seattle Times noted of their T-Mobile Park show, which attracted 41,000 attendees. Known for their genre-blending music and high-energy performances, Stray Kids have become one of the most innovative acts in K-pop, with a discography that seamlessly fuses hip-hop, electronic dance music and rock. Their 2023 record '5-Star' earned Top K-pop Album honors at the Billboard Music Awards and best K-pop at the 2023 MTV VMAs. The album, which sold more than 4.6 million copies in its first week, shattered K-pop records and cemented their status as global superstars. In 2024, Stray Kids won group of the year at the People's Choice Awards and K-pop album of the year at the iHeartRadio Music Awards. While being asked about Stray Kids' performance in Paris, the idol shared what he thought about greetings and respect. He shared that while the experience of performing in Paris was amazing, there was also something that concerned him. He shared that 'I don't know if I just sound like a boomer… I feel like it's come to the point where greeting someone is not considered basic manners.' He then clarified that rather than complaining and calling people out, he was sharing his experience on the matter. He talked about how he wasn't greeted when he was interacting with people, and that bothered him. He also added that the latest generation are more open and casual about the formalities of greeting someone; however, the case was not the same for them. He shared that 'I'm not like cussing people out or anything, but I feel like I'm thinking too much about it because if you see someone walk by, you say annyeonghaseyo, then if they don't reply back, you'd be like, 'What the…okay.' Tired of too many ads? go ad free now But I feel like it's come to the point where this generation is allowed to do that, just not care, if that's right.' Bang Chan talks about overthinking and not receiving greetings from people In relation to the previous issue, Bang Chan added that he had faced instances where even after he would greet someone respectfully, they wouldn't reciprocate the gesture, leaving him to overthink his actions. He stated that 'I guess there were a few scenarios where that would happen. At first, I was like, Okay, and then the more I thought about it, I was like, Maybe I am overexaggerating. Maybe I'm thinking too much about it. Maybe I'm a boomer.' He continued, sharing that 'But I mean, from my perspective, whoever it is, I'm going to say hi the best I can because I am here to have fun and greet people I like and respect.'

Stray Kids' Bang Chan apologizes after Brazil concert comment sparks fan backlash

Stray Kids' Bang Chan has apologized after facing backlash for a comment made during the group's Brazil concert. The K-pop star referred to Brazil as 'another home,' a remark that some fans misinterpreted as 'second home,' leading to division and heated debate within the fandom. In response, Bang Chan addressed the situation through the fan interaction platform Bubble, expressing regret over the misunderstanding and asking fans—known as STAYs—to stop fighting. 'I really wish STAYs would stop fighting with each other,' he wrote. Chan also shared how the situation affected him emotionally, saying it left him feeling vulnerable. 'At this point, whatever comes out of my mouth just becomes problematic,' he admitted, adding that he now feels 'scared to say anything.' He reflected on how a joyful performance turned into an unexpected point of conflict among fans. He acknowledged that jealousy may have played a role in the backlash but called it 'understandable.' Despite the situation, Chan reaffirmed his commitment to loving all fans equally, though he admitted, 'I feel like I'm only making fights… It's all my fault I guess.' Many fans expressed sympathy online, rallying to his defense while criticizing others for misinterpreting his words and placing unfair expectations on him. The emotional weight of Chan's message resonated with supporters, who urged unity within the fandom. The artist closed his message by taking responsibility and promising growth. 'I'll do better,' he wrote. 'That's all it takes.' The incident underscores how easily global fan interactions can turn tense—and how closely K-pop idols live under public scrutiny in the digital age.

Stray Kids Mark The Band's Busiest Week Ever On The Charts

Stray Kids emerged as one of the most successful K-pop acts in the Western world years ago, and the superstars continue to score win after win after win. The boy band has already landed a number of bestselling albums and hit songs in key markets like the United States and the United Kingdom, but this week marks a high point for the group in the U.K., as the pop stars flood multiple tallies with a quartet of new tracks, all taken from a just-released project. Four brand new tracks by Stray Kids debut on the U.K. charts this week. All four songs appear on two rankings apiece — the Official Singles Downloads and the Official Singles Sales tallies. At least two of the four cuts manage to become top 40 hits, which typically marks the threshold for when a track is considered a true success in many places. Of the four debuts, "Truman" leads the charge. The single opens at No. 29 on the Official Singles Downloads chart and No. 33 on the Official Singles Sales list. Just a few places behind comes "Escape," which kicks off its run at Nos. 32 and No. 35, respectively, on the same rankings. "Burnin' Tires" doesn't quite manage to reach the top 40 on both rankings, though it comes close. The track starts at No. 37 on the Official Singles Downloads chart, becoming an instant modest win. The same tune falls just shy of the same milestone on the Official Singles Sales list, beginning at No. 41. "Cinema" trails a bit further behind, debuting at No. 44 on the downloads-only tally and No. 47 on the all-encompassing sales chart. Each of the four newly-charting tunes is featured on Mixtape: Dominate, the latest collection from Stray Kids. While the release is labeled a single album in some markets — and an EP in others — it didn't appear to qualify as an album by U.K. standards. Mixtape: Dominate doesn't appear on any of the nation's album charts, though its individual songs sold well enough to do so. This frame now stands as Stray Kids' busiest ever in the U.K. The band has never before debuted four songs at one time. It's rare for the outfit to place more than one tune on the U.K. rankings in a single week, so managing a quartet of debuts at once is a huge showing for the vocal troupe. Stray Kids has now sent 15 tracks to the Official Singles Sales chart. With this week's achievements, the musicians also boost their total on the Official Singles Downloads list to 16. Both of those numbers are impressive totals for a largely non-English-speaking act of any kind in the Western world.

26 Mar - It was reported that Stray Kids' member Hyunjin has made a heartwarming gesture of generosity by donating 100 million Korean Won (approximately 68,000 US dollars) to Samsung Seoul Hospital. JYP Entertainment officially confirmed that the 25-year-old singer made this significant contribution on his birthday, 20 March, as a meaningful way to express gratitude to his fans. This charitable act is not new for Hyunjin, as it marks his second consecutive year of donating to the hospital. The recent donation will be specifically used to support critical medical needs, including covering the costs of surgical procedures, transplants, and emotional support programmes for young patients.
