Streck releases improved ARM-D® Kit, OXA with expanded coverage in three new OXA gene families

LA VISTA, Neb., June 3, 2025 /PRNewswire/ -- Streck is excited to announce the release of an updated version of the Streck ARM-D® Kit, OXA that detects an additional 36 allelic variants in 3 new antimicrobial resistance (AR) gene families. This expanded coverage is in response to customer feedback, particularly the member laboratories of the Antimicrobial Resistance Laboratory Network (ARLN) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), who have identified gene families and allelic variants of increasing diversity and relevance and require a surveillance method that can effectively detect them. Of particular interest to these labs is effective detection of the variants of OXA-235, OXA-236 and OXA-237 in the OXA-134 family, as well as OXA-327-like and OXA-198-like beta-lactamase enzymes. "The expansion of the Streck ARM-D Kit, OXA demonstrates our dedication to ensuring our products meet the needs of our customers in public health laboratories and emphasizes our commitment to make a global impact through solutions that improve infectious disease testing strategies," said Chris Connelly, director of Business Segment – Molecular. "We're proud to be a trusted resource for laboratories working hard in the fight against antimicrobial resistance." Streck's ARM-D kits allow for the cost-effective and comprehensive detection of more than 2,000 allelic variants across 25 AR gene families. Results from the kits demonstrate 100% concordance with whole genome sequencing (WGS) data from the same samples, for the targeted AR variants. The ARM-D kits are often used as a pre-WGS screening method to reduce the cost of AR surveillance in public health laboratories in the United States and other parts of the world. Streck ARM-D Kit, OXA is For Research Use Only. Not for use in diagnostic procedures. About Streck, in 1971, Streck provides solutions that ensure every result counts by empowering clinical and research laboratories to reliably deliver accurate results, advance diagnostics and enable healthier, happier lives for patients everywhere. Ohio tests tornado sirens ahead of spring storm season

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — As the spring season arrives, so does severe weather, leading to statewide tests of tornado sirens Wednesday. The sirens may have been just a test today, but with severe weather potentially coming into the Miami Valley this evening, drills like this are more important than ever. For Miami Valley residents, these sirens have often been the difference between safety and disaster. Windy and mild today with thunderstorms by evening 'Growing up, I don't remember having the weather like we're having now,' said Sheriff Rob Streck. Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck is very familiar with how the weather can turn from high winds to a tornado in the blink of an eye. Streck says he and his son were on their back porch when a tornado hit. 'Me and my son learned an important lesson that night, because I had always just grown up when a tornado warning goes off, I want to see the storm and all that,' said Streck. 'Living in this area, we don't do that anymore.' When tornadoes hit the county just a short time ago, it was sirens and media alerts that saved lives. 'When we experienced tornadoes here in the Montgomery County area of the region, there were no fatalities at that point in our area,' said Streck. 'And we've always said most of that is due to the media coverage that occurred and tornado sirens.' The sheriff says to pay attention to those alerts and never disregard the sound of sirens. 'We really have to pay attention when the sirens go off nowadays, because every time they go off, there's usually something, whether it's high winds or whether it is actually a tornado that may have touched down somewhere,' said Streck. And it's very important to find that safe spot in your home, but to also make sure you have a way to communicate with loved ones. 'It's always important to have a charged cell phone nowadays,' said Streck. 'Weather radios, items like that. Have multiple ways of listening so that you know what's going on.' The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office recommends staying weather alert at all times — they have an app on their website called Code Red that can send emergency alerts. ‘Unresponsive' woman hospitalized after deputies find signs of fight inside Harrison Twp. apartment

A woman was taken to an area hospital after she was found unresponsive at a Harrison Twp. apartment building with deputies also discovering obvious signs of a fight. [DOWNLOAD: Free WHIO-TV News app for alerts as news breaks] News Center 7′s Taylor Robertson is on the scene and is working to gather the latest information from deputies. She'll have a LIVE report on News Center 7 at 5:00 and 6:00. Deputies were called to the apartment building in the 4300 block of Riverside Drive, near Shoup Mill Road, around 2:10 p.m. on first reports of a disorderly situation, Montgomery County Sheriff Rob Streck told News Center 7. A woman found found in the hallway of the building unresponsive, Streck said. She was taken to an area hospital for treatment, however the nature and extent of her injuries was not immediately released. Deputies found 'obvious signs of a fight' inside an apartment and are looking for a man they believed was involved, Streck said. While the woman was found near the apartment, Streck said it is still unclear if she was involved in the fight. Investigators are looking for a man who was seen wearing an outfit described as peach-colored, Streck said. He was not called a suspect, and Streck said the person they're looking for might not have been involved in the fight either. However, witnesses reported seeing a man leaving the scene shortly before deputies arrived and investigators are working to identify him. Deputies are now waiting for a search warrant to further search the apartment where the signs of the fight were found, Streck said.
