Murrah High senior receives National Merit Scholarship

JACKSON, Miss. (WJTV) – A senior at Murrah High School in Jackson won the National Merit $2,500 Scholarship. According to the Jackson Public School District (JPS), Kristen Celeste Rhodes is one of only 2,500 students chosen from a nationwide pool of more than 15,000 finalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Mississippi Museum of Art, Millsaps College launch new partnership Earlier this year, Rhodes was also honored by the Mississippi Economic Council in the STAR (Student Teacher Achievement Recognition) program for her academic excellence and perfect ACT score. Harris County Senior heads to statewide STAR competition

COLUMBUS, Ga. () — A Harris County High Senior is headed to the Georgia statewide STAR competition. The STAR program, or Student Teacher Achievement Recognition, acknowledges outstanding high school seniors and the teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development. Harris County senior Tate Williams was recently selected as the Regional STAR Student and now advances to the state STAR Student event on Apr. 28 at the Atlanta Marriott Alpharetta. 'Tate's enthusiasm for problem-solving and dedication to excellence make him a standout student,' said Katie Sizemore, his AP Computer Science teacher and his chosen STAR Teacher. 'It's an honor to be part of his academic journey.' Those around Tate say he 'consistently excels academically,' especially in the field of computer science. His achievements include the Academic Award for Achievement in Computer Science, state and national placements in Academic Bowl, Technology Student Association, and CyberPatriot, recognition as a College Board Rural Scholar and AP Scholar with Distinction, participation in the National Science Bowl, and membership in honor societies such as the National Honor Society and Science National Honor Society. 'Harris County High School is proud to celebrate Tate, whose achievements reflect the school's commitment to fostering academic excellence and leadership,' said HCHS Principal Lindie Snyder. 'His determination and passion for learning will undoubtedly lead to continued success in his future endeavors.'
