East Baton Rouge School Board approved ‘Students First' plan to close 9 schools
BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — The East Baton Rouge Parish School System approved the 'Students First' plan to close nine schools and repurpose six buildings.
On Monday evening, the EBR school board approved the plan, saying it would help the students. EBR board members said most of the schools on the list are 'F' rated schools that are underenrolled, and the buildings are unsafe.
The plan was introduced by EBR Superintendent LaMont Cole. Its purpose is to prioritize achievement, operational excellence and employee development.
'Students First' would close nine schools, vacate four buildings, and repurpose six. This would also require at least 15 attendance zone changes.
