CPA initiative in North Batinah to support consumers in Ramadan
Muscat – Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) in North Batinah, in cooperation with several shopping malls, has launched an initiative called 'Ramadan and Solidarity' to support consumers during the holy month. The initiative features booths set up in shopping malls with discounts on select goods, special offers and Ramadan baskets, along with activities aimed at raising awareness on consumer rights and responsibilities.
Khaled bin Yousef al Maamari, Director of Studies and Development Department at CPA in North Batinah, said the initiative aims to protect consumers by fostering partnerships between consumer protection agencies and the private sector. He added that the objective is to create a positive environment for both merchants and consumers, while reducing financial burden on shoppers.
'The aim is to ensure appropriate pricing of goods, particularly Ramadan essentials, and to promote social responsibility among commercial establishments,' Maamari said. 'This principle must be embraced by these entities to serve the common good and simplify the purchasing process.'
Ali bin Hassan al Ajmi, Head of Market Regulation and Control Department, informed that the initiative was developed in collaboration with local shops and shopping centres to provide essential goods at reasonable prices. 'It aims to save consumers' time, prevent impulsive buying and ensure that all necessary items are available in the markets of the governorate.'
Ajmi also informed that field inspections are being conducted to monitor price stability and prevent price hikes. 'Various media outlets are being used to raise consumer awareness,' he added, also praising the positive response to CPA's periodic campaigns.
