Piles of rubbish mar Seri Kembangan's image
Rubbish dumped by the side of Jalan Aman in Seri Kembangan. A long-term solution is needed to the persistent dumping of rubbish illegally in Seri Kembangan, Selangor. Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Zone 22 councillor Tey Boon Kiat said several locations had become hotspots. 'These include Jalan SK 9, Jalan SK 2/3, Jalan Jinma 4, Jalan SK 7/3, Jalan 14/2B, Jalan SK 8/1, Jalan SK 3/5, Jalan SK 5/4, Jalan Pasar and Jalan Kuyuh. 'These piles of rubbish not only pollute the environment and become breeding grounds for pests, they also tarnish the image of the entire community. 'This has become a vicious cycle because if the rubbish is not cleared, it will pile up and the sites will continue to be dumping grounds,' he said. To address the issue, Tey suggested the city council consider installing closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in the affected areas. 'However, there are concerns that the CCTV's blindspots could become new dumping sites,' he said, adding that those caught dumping rubbish would be issued a RM1,000 compound. Tey was speaking during a press conference after a clean-up operation with KDEB Waste Management Sdn Bhd at Jalan Aman in Kampung Baru Seri Kembangan. Seri Kembangan new village chief Eric Hong said the issue had persisted for years without a long-term solution. 'We have advised people repeatedly not to throw their rubbish everywhere, but nothing has changed. 'Each time KDEB clears the area, new piles of rubbish are there in just a few days or even overnight,' said Hong.

Full resumption of Smart Selangor bus service in Subang Jaya in first week of June
PETALING JAYA: All the Smart Selangor bus routes under the supervision of Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) are expected to resume by the first week of June. Selangor investment, trade and mobility committee chairman Ng Sze Han said in a statement that the state government regrets the service disruption on routes SJ01, SJ02, SJ03, SJ04, and SJ05 under MBSJ's supervision, and that routes SJ01, SJ02 and SJ03 have now resumed operations. He also said the Selangor government has requested MBSJ to conduct an internal audit so that all agencies can identify the root cause and weaknesses that led to the almost a month-long disruption of the Smart Selangor bus service in the city. 'The state government is aware that this disruption has caused inconvenience to users, including schoolchildren who rely on this service since its inception. Disruptions like this can erode public confidence in the state and national public transportation services and hinder efforts to promote the use of public transport overall,' he said. He added that the state government places great importance on providing free bus services for the people of Selangor, to facilitate public mobility.

Drainage upgrade to ease Bkt Serdang's flood woes
(From left) Wong and Suzanah at the site of the newly upgraded drain along Jalan BS 3/1 in Bukit Serdang, Seri Kembangan. With them are staff from Wong's office. Bukit Serdang's residents fears of flooding may be alleviated, thanks to a drainage upgrade along Jalan BS 3/1. Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) Zone 21 councillor Suzanah Hanim Wong said the project in Seri Kembangan, Selangor, was initiated following complaints about flash floods and drainage issues, especially during heavy rain. 'This has been a long-standing matter, so this upgrade was essential,' she said. She added that the RM268,950 project, funded by the Housing and Local Government Ministry, was one of seven infrastructure improvements identified for Seri Kembangan. Covering a 160m stretch between Jalan BS 3/1 and Jalan BS 6/17, works began on Jan 2 and were completed on April 23. The project involved the installation of U-shaped concrete drains measuring 600mm x 600mm and the construction of new scupper drains to collect surface run-off. Suzanah said the project was a good example of effective cooperation between the state and Federal Government. 'Sometimes, the cost of resolving certain infrastructure issues goes beyond the city council's annual budget,' she added when met at the site. Seri Kembangan assemblyman Wong Siew Ki, who was also present, said the project was part of a broader strategy to strengthen local infrastructure in response to the township's fast-paced development. 'Four housing projects are in the works near Jalan BS 3/1. 'We cannot afford to wait for floods to happen after these developments begin; we must be proactive,' she said. Wong said MBSJ and state representatives had assessed development pressure in three critical areas, namely Bukit Serdang sections 1 to 3, Section 9 and Section 10. Section 10 is also the original site of the Seri Kembangan night market. 'All three areas are experiencing rapid development. 'So we've asked MBSJ to prepare a complete infrastructure plan, not just for drainage but also for traffic and road systems,' she added. Site visits were also carried out at the three areas to gather feedback from stakeholders. 'This helped us understand their needs on the ground. 'Our goal is to ensure these areas are well prepared for the next wave of development,' said Wong.

Selangor govt allocates RM2.73mil in rental assistance for Putra Heights fire victims
SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government has allocated RM2.73 million in rental assistance for 455 families affected by the Putra Heights fire. Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the number of affected families had increased from 396 due to additional applications and ongoing investigations. "Each family will receive RM6,000 to cover three month's rent at first. "Any additional assistance for the following three months will be provided in July or August for those who need to extend their rental. "The rent will be transferred directly into the bank accounts of the affected families," he said during a joint press conference with Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming at the Selangor State Secretariat Building today. Amirudin added that 214 families have received aid so far, while the remaining recipients are awaiting verification of their bank accounts, identity cards, and other documents. He also said the state government had initially committed to providing six months of rental assistance for the Putra Heights victims whose homes were destroyed in the fire. "But as the restoration works will kick start soon, we believe that 60 to 70 per cent of residents will be able to return to their homes by then (within the six month period). "However, the state government remains committed to cover an additional six months or even up to a year of rent for those who require it, particularly for victims whose homes need to be rebuilt," he said. Amirudin added that homeowners with properties suffering minor damage, estimated below RM30,000, may repair their homes initially and submit reimbursement claims to either the village heads or local authorities. "The residents can file claims with their respective local authority or directly with their village head. "These claims will be forwarded on a weekly basis to the Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ)," he said. For repair and restoration work, Sime Darby will manage the restoration efforts in Putra Harmoni as the developer, while Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru will be overseen by Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB). "Reconstruction efforts will include essential amenities like wiring, lighting, and ceiling fans to ensure the homes are habitable. However, additional fittings and accessories will not be covered," he added. On April 29, the Selangor government distributed three months of rental assistance to over 150 families affected. State Housing and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said the RM2,000 in rental assistance per month was provided by the Selangor Housing and Property Board.
