38-year-old man held for robbing railway passengers in Ghaziabad
Ghaziabad: Railway police arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly robbing passengers at the platforms and on the train. Stolen items worth Rs 2.5 lakhs were recovered.
The accused, Hamid, a resident of Masuri village, had stolen a purse from a woman inside the railway station and escaped a few days ago.
The woman lost her gold chain and earrings worth Rs 1 lakh, and a case was filed.
Sudesh Gupta, circle officer of railway police station, said that they identified the accused through CCTV footage. "During interrogation, the accused said that he came for a new target and before he could commit a new robbery, he was arrested," Gupta said.
In the past few months, Hamid committed three robberies here. GRP is also trying to find out about other thefts that he might have committed.
