Jordan condemns Israeli settler incursion into Al-Aqsa, reaffirms responsibility for mosque
LONDON: The Jordanian Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs condemned the storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque by extremist Israeli settlers, describing the action as provocative. On Monday and Tuesday, hundreds of Israeli settlers entered the compound in the Old City, which is part of occupied East Jerusalem. The ministry described the setters' behavior as 'inflammatory acts that aim to impose new temporal and spatial divisions at the mosque.' Settlers regularly tour the site under the protection of Israeli police and are often accompanied by government officials and far-right ministers. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Sufian Qudah said that the settlers' incursion 'would not be possible without the protection and facilitation of the Israeli police,' demanding that the Israeli authorities 'halt their irresponsible and dangerous practices.' On Tuesday, some settlers performed Talmudic rituals in Al-Aqsa compound known as 'epic prostration,' in which the worshipper bows low to the ground in a display of humility and reverence, the Petra news agency reported. Qudah emphasized that the 144-dunam area of Al-Aqsa Mosque is a place of worship exclusively for Muslims. He highlighted that the Jerusalem Endowments Council, which operates under Jordan's Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, is the only legal authority responsible for managing and regulating Al-Aqsa's affairs, Petra added.

Qatar, Jordan condemn Israeli bombing of Hamad Hospital in Gaza
LONDON: Qatar and Jordan condemned Israel's bombing of the Hamad Hospital for Prosthetic Limbs in the Gaza Strip on Monday, labeling it a clear violation of international and humanitarian laws. The Hamad Hospital for Prosthetic Limbs in northern Gaza was established in 2019 following a directive from Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, father of Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim. It is one of the remaining medical facilities functioning in Gaza that offers rehabilitation services for hearing, balance, and prosthetics. Qatar said that Israel's bombing of Hamad Hospital and its ongoing targeting of civilians, medical facilities, and shelters for the displaced families in Gaza is 'part of the war of genocide against the brotherly Palestinian people.' Sufian Qudah, spokesperson for the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemned the Israeli use of starvation and blockade to displace Palestinians. He added that Israeli human rights violations in Gaza and the occupied West Bank threaten regional security and stability. Jordan and Qatar urged the international community to fulfill its responsibilities and immediately help bring an end to the war in Gaza. On Sunday, Israel launched extensive military operations in the Gaza Strip aimed at occupying the territory. Several hospitals were targeted in the enclave over the past week, including the Indonesian Hospital, one of the largest partially functioning medical facilities in Beit Lahia. In the south, the Gaza European Hospital in Khan Yunis and the Kuwait Specialized Hospital in Rafah were also affected.

Jordan condemns terrorist attack on Somali military camp
Doctors and nurses treat injure youth at the Somali Sudanese Hospital in Mogadishu on May 18, 2025 (AFP photo) AMMAN — The Foreign Ministry on Sunday condemned the 'terrorist' attack that targeted the Somali army's Damaanyo camp in the capital, Mogadishu, resulting in several deaths and injuries. Ministry spokesperson Sufian Qudah reiterated Jordan's full solidarity with Somalia in confronting the 'heinous act', stressing the Kingdom's rejection of all forms of violence and terrorism aimed at destabilising security and stability. Qudah extended condolences to the government and people of Somalia, as well as to the families of the victims, wishing the injured a swift recovery, according to a ministry statement. Several people were killed and others wounded when a suicide bomber, thought to be from the Al-Shabab militant group, targeted an army recruitment centre in Mogadishu on Sunday, Somali authorities and witnesses said, according to AFP. The attacker, disguised as a civilian, detonated explosives outside the XeroDamaayo camp in southern Mogadishu at 9:20 am (0620 GMT), the information ministry said. "Casualties have been reported, but details are still being verified," the ministry said. "Security forces are on the scene and have launched an investigation." Islamist militant group Al Shabab, which is linked to Al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for the bombing. "The Mujahidin carried out an explosion targeting apostates who stayed in front of XeroDamaayo in Mogadishu's Hodon district. They were enlisting to join the forces," the group said. Witnesses described scenes of chaos and casualties near the blast site. Adan Yare, a Tuktuk driver who was passing close to the area, said the road had been crowded with civilians when the explosion occurred, with people waiting to enter the military camp. "I was very lucky because when the explosion occurred, I had already driven past the area. "The explosion shook my Tuktuk and when I stopped and looked back, there were several people lying (on the ground), some of them dead and others wounded," he said. Another witness, Saalim Nur, said he saw the bodies of five civilians. "I was in a minibus. We were about a few hundred metres away from the scene when the explosion occurred. "The whole area has become rubble, with stones and sand flying," he said. Somalia has suffered a resurgence of attacks by Al Shabab in recent months. The group, which is fighting to overthrow the government, has intensified its campaign in the impoverished and climate-vulnerable country. In March, Al Shabab claimed responsibility for a bomb that narrowly missed the presidential convoy in Mogadishu, and in April, militants fired mortar shells near the capital's airport.
