Monaco: Knox-Johnston visits Yacht Club, set to chair ‘Classic Week' jury in September

MONACO, May 12, 2025 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Yacht Club de Monaco (YCM) hosted an exceptional evening with Sir Robin Knox-Johnston, ocean sailing legend and the first man to complete a solo, non-stop circumnavigation of the globe. The event, part of YCM's mission to promote maritime culture by blending tradition and innovation, also officially launched the 17th edition of the 'Monaco Classic Week–La Belle Classe' (10–13 September 2025), a world reference in classic yachting. Welcomed by distinguished yacht owners and sailors such as Sir Lord Laidlaw, Harold Cudmore, Saskia Clark, and Marc Pajot, Knox-Johnston shared images and memories of his historic voyage aboard the ketch 'Suhaili', which departed from Falmouth in 1968. 'Solitude is a pitiless mirror - he said - You discover your flaws. For me, I realised I could be a bit lazy. But you don't have that luxury. The boat doesn't give you that choice – it forces you always to act.' The bond between Knox-Johnston and the Principality continues: he will return to chair the jury of the 'Monaco Classic Week', where 'Suhaili' will also be present. 'It's a fantastic event and the most important in the world of classic yachting. It's a great privilege to be president of the jury,' he added. Further underscoring YCM's commitment to combining heritage and innovation is the participation of Vice-President Pierre Casiraghi in the 'Admiral's Cup' (17 July – 1 August 2025). He will sail alongside Boris Herrmann aboard the Carkeek 40 'Jolt 6', a project supported by YCM member and Jolt's owner Peter Harrison. The Monegasque team will also field a second yacht, the TP52 'Jolt 3' reinforcing the club's presence in major international competitions. During the evening, Sir Robin retraced the most dramatic moments of his feat: storms in the Roaring Forties, rounding Cape Horn ('a big moment for any sailor'), and four and a half months without communication: 'Everyone thought I was dead'. But it wasn't only a journey through history. Knox-Johnston also highlighted his ongoing contribution to training future sailors through the 'Clipper Round the World Yacht Race', which he founded in 1996. '40% of my crew members have never sailed before. They're the easiest to train because they don't have bad habits.' In 2013, he was awarded the title 'Personnalité de la Mer' by H.S.H. Prince Albert II. Even today, at 85, he continues to inspire with a clear message: 'The sea teaches you patience. You cannot conquer it. It doesn't even notice you. You have to listen to it to understand it'. For more information:- A photo accompanying this announcement is available at

Bersatu desperate for my seat: Suhaili

Published on: Friday, May 09, 2025 Published on: Fri, May 09, 2025 By: Sohan Das Text Size: Suhaili with Anwar. LABUAN: Member of Parliament Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman said Bersatu should not rush to have his Labuan seat in the Dewan Rakyat but wait for all avenues to challenge Bersatu removing him from party membership being exhausted. 'There is still a long way to go. I have instructed my lawyers to file an appeal and, if necessary, move to the Federal Court level,' said Suhaili. He was referring to a letter from Bersatu Chief Whip Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul to declare the Labuan seat vacant. Suhaili reiterated that he was not the one to abandon ship. 'The ship abandoned me,' said Suhaili. 'It is unfortunate that the party does not see this. I declared support to the Prime Minister due to the good policies and my support would benefit Labuan where I serve,' said Suhaili. Subscribe or LOG IN to access this article. Decision on Labuan MP status to be made soon, says Speaker

KLANG: The status of Datuk Suhaili Abdul Rahman as the Labuan MP will be decided soon, according to Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul. He said a letter from Bersatu Chief Whip Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee on the matter had been received, and all aspects are being scrutinised before any decision is made. 'I need time to review everything. Insya-Allah, a decision will be made soon after examining all aspects, including legal matters. 'I have received the letter from Bersatu, and I have written to the Labuan MP. I will also consult with several other units, as I do not have complete information. A decision on this matter will be made soon, once all the necessary information is obtained.' Johari said this at a press conference after officiating at the 2nd Consultative Meeting of Young Parliamentarians of AIPA (YPA) here today. It was previously reported that Bersatu had sent a letter to the Dewan Rakyat Speaker demanding that the Labuan parliamentary seat be declared vacant. This followed a decision by the Shah Alam High Court on April 15, which dismissed the writ of summons and statement of claim filed by Suhaili against the party. Suhaili is among six Bersatu MPs stripped of their party membership last June for declaring support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Labuan seat in limbo: Speaker to decide soon amid Bersatu push

KLANG: The status of the Labuan parliamentary seat will be determined soon, says Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul. He confirmed receiving a letter from Bersatu chief whip Datuk Seri Ronald Kiandee regarding the matter. "I need time to review the issue, and God willing, a decision will be made soon after considering all aspects, including the legal implications. "I have received the letter from Bersatu and have written to the Labuan MP Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman. "I will also consult several other departments, as I do not yet have complete information. "Once all the necessary details have been gathered, God willing, a decision will be made in due course," he said during a press conference after officiating the 2nd Consultative Meeting of Young Parliamentarians of the Asean Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (YPA) here today. It was reported that Bersatu had submitted a letter to Johari demanding that the Labuan parliamentary seat be declared vacant. This follows the Shah Alam High Court's decision on April 15 to strike out the writ of summons and statement of claim filed by Suhaili against the party. Suhaili had filed the lawsuit on July 1, 2024, claiming that on Nov 2, 2023, the Bersatu disciplinary board had issued a letter notifying him of charges under Article 22.1(f) of the party constitution. The letter also stated that a report had been lodged concerning his statement in support of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. Suhaili is one of six Bersatu MPs whose membership was revoked in June last year after they declared support for the prime minister.
