Police clueless about fraudsters in fake Schengen visa case

T'puram: A Kanyakumari native's arrest for possessing a fake Schengen visa has left investigators puzzled, as they struggle to identify the fraudsters behind the scam. Sujin S, 38, of Manjalumoodu, was arrested on May 20 after being deported from Sharjah. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The case is particularly complex as Sujin had verified the visa's authenticity with the Slovakian embassy before traveling. He paid Rs 7 lakh to an agency in Angamaly after his brother responded to an online advertisement. The visa appeared genuine enough to pass initial scrutiny. Despite being charged under various Sections of the Immigration Act and BNS for forgery and cheating, evidence suggests Sujin was actually a victim. The fraudsters, operating from Kalamassery in Eranakulam, remain untraceable with their phones switched-off and no physical office. Police continue their investigation, hoping for a breakthrough in identifying the perpetrators. TNN

T'puram: A 29-year-old man was stabbed to death by a five-member gang at Chithara in Kollam on Tuesday night after he questioned the public consumption of alcohol and open drug dealings. A friend of the victim was also injured while trying to rescue him. The deceased has been identified as Sujin, 29, of Karara in Madathara. His friend Anandhu, 27, also of Karara, sustained a stab injury to the back of his head. Chithara police arrested the five accused—Vivek (29), Lalu (32), and Mahi (18) of Karara; Sooryajith (23) of Madathara; and Vijay (21) of Thumbamanthodi. According to police, Sujin, who was the secretary of the Karara temple committee, had earlier warned the accused against causing disturbances near the temple under the influence of alcohol. He had also objected to their involvement in drug-related activities. The accused, angered by this, were reportedly seeking revenge. Around 10pm on Tuesday, two of the accused verbally abused Sujin and his friends near Chariprambu and then fled. Minutes later, all five returned and Sooryajith allegedly stabbed Sujin in the back. When Anandhu tried to intervene, he was also attacked. After Sujin collapsed, the gang fled the scene. Both victims were taken to Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital, where Sujin died while undergoing treatment. Anandhu's condition is reported to be stable. The accused were produced before a court and remanded under BNS sections 296(b) (abuse), 126(2) (wrongful restraint), 109(1) (attempt to murder), and 103(1) (murder).

Agency gives fake visa, flier arrested

T'puram: Valiyathura police on Monday arrested a 38-year-old man for forging a Schengen visa and attempting to fly to Slovakia. During probe, police found that Sujin, a Kanyakumari native, was cheated by an Angamaly-based agency which offered him the visa. The victim even contacted the Slovakian embassy in India to verify the authenticity of the visa provided and the embassy officials confirmed it to be a valid Schengen visa. At Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, the emmigration officials allowed him to travel to Sharjah for a transit flight from there. However, the immigration officials at Sharjah found the visa to be fake and he was deported back to the city on another flight. As soon as he returned, immigration officials handed him over to Valiyathura police and a case was registered against Sujin under Sections 10 and 24 of the Immigration Act and under BNS Sections 336 (2) forgery, 336 (3) for committing an offence through forgery, 340 (2) for using forged documents and 318 (4) for cheating. "The accused paid Rs 7 lakh to the agency for the visa and it resembled an authentic Schengen visa. Even the embassy officials could identify it to be a fake one.
