Photo: PCB Quetta Gladiators secured a thrilling two-wicket victory over Multan Sultans thanks to brilliant Hasan Nawaz to secured top spot in the HBL Pakistan Super League season 10 (PSL10) at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on Sunday. Chasing a challenging target of 186, the Gladiators got off to a flying start courtesy of Khawaja Nafay. The openers stitched together a quickfire 60-run partnership in the powerplay, laying a strong foundation. Nafay was the standout performer, bringing up yet another half-century with a flurry of boundaries. His 51 off just 26 balls, featuring five fours and four sixes at a strike rate of 196.15, kept the required rate in check. The 77-run opening stand was broken when Shahid Aziz removed Nafay. Soon after, skipper Saud Shakeel fell for a sluggish 18 off 24 balls, leaving Quetta at 81/2 in 8.5 overs. Sri Lankan batter Avishka Fernando, playing his first PSL 10 match, failed to make an impact and departed for 7, again to Shahid Aziz, reducing the Gladiators to 87/3. Veteran Sri Lankan Dinesh Chandimal kept the scoreboard ticking alongside Hassan Nawaz, pushing the total past the 100-run mark. Chandimal's short but vital knock of 17 off 10 ended at 116/4, courtesy of Ubaid Shah. The collapse continued as Danish Aziz was dismissed for a duck by Peter Hatzoglou, and Faheem Ashraf, after contributing 16, fell at a crucial juncture with the score at 159/6 in 17.1 overs. Mohammad Wasim Jr. was run out for just 1 in the 18th over, intensifying the pressure. However, Hassan Nawaz stood firm. With 11 runs needed off the final over, the young batter kept his nerve. He finished the match in style, smashing a six off the last ball to seal the win. Nawaz remained unbeaten on a match-winning 67 off 38 balls, guiding his side home in a nail-biting finish. Earlier, Multan Sultans, after being put in to bat, started strongly with Yasir Khan hitting back-to-back boundaries in the opening over. However, skipper Mohammad Rizwan was cleaned up by Faheem Ashraf in the second over after scoring just 4, leaving the team at 12/1. Yasir and Jahanzeib Sultan steadied the innings with a 52-run stand. Jahanzeib scored 25 off 21 before falling to Usman Tariq, who also dismissed Yasir Khan (45 off 25) shortly after, reducing the Sultans to 79/3 in 9 overs. The Sultans lost momentum in the final overs. Abrar Ahmed dismissed Hatzoglou cheaply, while Aamer Azmat provided a late flourish, striking a big six off Shahzad in the 18th over. Azmat remained unbeaten on 21 off 16. In the final over, Mohammad Wasim Jr. picked up the wicket of Shahid Aziz, who had scored a brisk 29 off 14 balls. Mohammad Hasnain capped off the innings with a boundary, helping Multan post a competitive total of 185/7.

Peshawar Zalmi thrash Multan Sultans by 7 wickets, keep PSL playoff hopes alive

ISLAMABAD: Peshawar Zalmi continued their impressive run of form on Monday by beating Multan Sultans by seven wickets at their home ground, effectively keeping their hopes of qualifying for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) playoffs stage alive. The Sultans batted first at their home turf but were unable to impress, losing a flurry of wickets as Zalmi bowlers kept on taking breakthroughs at regular intervals. The only signs of resistance came from Shai Hope, who top-scored for the Sultans with 23 runs while middle-order batter Tayyab Tahir made 22. Zalmi's Ahmad Daniyal was the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of 3/17 from four overs while Luke Wood and Maaz Sadaqat picked two wickets each to ensure the Sultans were bowled out for 108 runs in 19.1 overs. 'In the 25th match of Pakistan Super League, Peshawar Zalmi defeated Multan Sultans by seven wickets in Multan last night,' Radio Pakistan reported. Zalmi chased the total in 13 overs with seven wickets to spare. Explosive opening batter Saim Ayub scored 49 runs from 33 balls while Max Bryant remained unbeaten on 38 from 20 balls. Zalmi captain Babar Azam scored 8 runs from 13 balls while Mitchell Owen scored only one run from two balls. For the Sultans, Shahid Aziz returned figures of 2/17 from three overs while David Willey finished with 1/9 from his single over. The 'Yellow Storm' remain at number five on the PSL points table with four wins from a total of eight matches. The top four teams will qualify for the PSL playoffs. If Zalmi qualify for the playoffs, Azam's team will remain the only one to qualify for every playoff since the edition began in 2016. Zalmi will next play Karachi Kings on Thursday before taking on former two-time PSL champions Lahore Qalandars on Friday.

Sultans lose 7th game in HBL-PSL-X: Vince, Khushdil and Nabi shine for Kings

LAHORE: David Warner's Karachi Kings romped to a dominating 87-run win over Multan Sultans here at the Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore in first game of the double-header on Thursday. Karachi Kings now have four wins to their name, while Sultans lost their seventh game out of the eight they have played. Karachi was helped to the win by James Vince's unbeaten half-century, all-round brilliance of Khushdil Shah and Mohammad Nabi's economical three-for. Sultans were dismissed for 117 in 16.1 overs, chasing the mammoth 205-run target, with no one except Kamran Ghulam and Yasir Khan crossing the 20-run mark. For Kings Mohammad Nabi (3-14) and Khushdil (2-26) shared five wickets among them, while Mir Hamza (2-15) had the best figures among pacers. Aamir Jamal drew the first blood for Kings by dismissing Mohammad Rizwan in the second over, while Mir Hamza and Mohammad Abbas Afridi struck to dismiss Usman Khan and Yasir Khan (26, 17b, 1x4, 3x6s), respectively as Sultans were left reeling at 34-3 in 4.2 overs. Kings landed blow after blow as Nabi and Khushdil bowled in tandem to put pressure on Sultans' batting line-up. Kamran Ghulam's two fours and one six in his 25-ball 29 were not enough to put their innings on track as he ran out of partners on regular intervals. Sultans could only add 32 runs to their total for the last five wickets with Chris Jordan remaining unbeaten for a nine-ball 14 with the help of one four and one six. Earlier, Karachi Kings breached the 200-run mark only for the fourth time in HBL PSL history, two of which have come in 2025 against Sultans, as their batters went berserk. After opting to bat first, David Warner, who smashed a 13-ball 30 with the help of four fours and two sixes, and Tim Seifert (22, 11b, 3x4s, 1x6) laid the tone for the big score with a quickfire 53-run stand taking just 23 balls. Seifert and Warner fell to Ubaid Shah and David Willey, respectively in a space of three balls, while no.4 batter Omair Bin Yousuf returned for a five-ball solitary run as Kings finished the Powerplay with 60-3 on the board. Kings' top-scorer and no. 3 batter Vince and Muhammad Irfan Khan joined forces for the next 56 balls to collect 78 runs. With 91 runs on the board at halfway mark, Irfan tonked Usama Mir for consecutive sixes to ransack 16 runs off the 11th over. Curtis Campher provided the Sultans with much-needed breakthrough removing Irfan (40, 33b, 2x4s, 3x6s) in the 15th over. Vince, who remained unbeaten for 65 off 45 balls clubbing five fours and two sixes, then got together with Khushdil to help Kings score 66 runs off the last five overs. Khushdil smoked three sixes and two fours in his unbeaten 33 off just 13 balls helping Karachi to a solid total of 204-4 in the allotted 20 overs. We're not out of it yet: Rizwan

Pakistan captain Mohammad Rizwan says that he wanted take the game deep with Saud Shakeel but shot selection let them down. Photo: ICC In one of the most one-sided matches of HBL PSL 10 so far, Quetta Gladiators bulldozed Multan Sultans by 10 wickets on Tuesday at Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium — chasing down a paltry 90-run target with a jaw-dropping 79 balls to spare. Despite the humiliation, Multan captain Mohammad Rizwan remained composed in the post-match presser, brushing off talk of a bad pitch and instead taking responsibility for what he described as "poor shot selection." "I don't think the pitch was that bad — it was challenging, but definitely a 150-160 kind of surface," Rizwan said. "Credit to their bowlers for sticking to the right lengths and executing well," he added. Rizwan, who top-scored with 44, carried Multan's innings on his shoulders after the top order crumbled under pressure. Multan was reduced to 12-2 inside the first two overs and never recovered. Khurram Shahzad wreaked havoc with a brilliant opening spell, removing Yasir Khan, Usman Khan, Kamran Ghulam, and Curtis Campher in quick succession. Things went from bad to worse as Faheem Ashraf chipped in with two wickets, including the key dismissal of Iftikhar Ahmed for just six. The Sultans were eventually bundled out for a meagre 89 in just 17 overs, with Rizwan remaining not out on 44. Quetta's response was pure dominance. Finn Allen and Saud Shakeel made short work of the chase. Allen smashed 45 off just 21 balls, including two sixes and a four in one over off David Willey, while Shakeel calmly stroked his way to an unbeaten 42. By the end of the powerplay, the Gladiators were cruising at 74-0, and Allen fittingly ended the game with a towering six off Usama Mir. This commanding win marks Quetta's fourth in the tournament, bolstering their playoff hopes. Multan, meanwhile, faces an uphill battle. "We're not out of it yet," Rizwan said. "But I don't like relying on other teams to help us qualify. We have to win our games now," he concluded. With playoffs approaching fast, the pressure is squarely on Rizwan and his Sultans to turn their campaign around — before it's too late.
