Harrison County YMCA adds new wellness center to its services
CLARKSBURG, (WBOY) — The Harrison County YMCA has officially unveiled its new wellness center. 'We heard the community; there was an outcry for more mental health services in our area,' said the YMCA's licensed massage therapist and functional nutrition counselor Pam Gaskins. 'Being the YMCA, we heard the cries and we responded.' Gaskins said that she's been working on this project for nearly a year. In addition to her services, the center has recently hired mental health professional Lisa Steffich, who's a licensed professional counselor. 'We both do group and individual sessions, and it's just a little something extra that the Y can offer the community,' said Gaskins. 'We have several things that we offer here at the fitness center. We are starting a singing bowl class, we have yoga—both for young and old, SilverSneakers, tai chi, all of that will be available here at the wellness center at the YMCA.' The wellness center is all-inclusive and welcoming to everyone and also provides services to people facing financial difficulties, according to Gaskins. Harrison County Parks & Recreation releases Summer Day Camp schedule for kids 'We wanna make our services available to anyone and everyone in the community that needs them,' she said. 'So, we definitely have several different ways that we can help people get here and get them the services that they're looking for.' According to Gaskins, the wellness center is really focused on the inclusion of mind and body healing, which both go hand-in-hand. 'A lot of people like to pick one or the other, and then they kind of get to a roadblock,' she added. 'So we really wanted to take that roadblock down to educate people, and give them a place to use that education for their health and wellness needs.' Gaskins also told 12 News that in the near future, Harrison County YMCA is planning to launch a campaign to assist with plans to expand the wellness center. Through donations raised over the course of the campaign, along with grants, they plan to hopefully bring many more health practitioners on board to grow the center and the services that it provides. 'The inspiration came from the public really,' said Gaskins. 'There were a lot of people coming to me on my table, asking for mental health services and I [could] not provide that. So I sought out on a mission to find that and bring it here to the people.' If you're curious but unsure whether or not these programs may be a good fit for you, both Gaskins and Steffich are offering group sessions each week on different topics. Gaskins' sessions will specifically focus on nutrition and body movement, while Steffich's discussions will surround mental health. Harrison County YMCA also offers free childcare during the evening hours, to make these sessions and classes accessible to everyone. What's that? Progress in Lebanon on In-N-Out, Sam's Club, Goddard School, Empower, more
Commercial and business development continues to explode in Lebanon. Here is the latest on a number businesses that have or have recently completed building projects in the city. Empower Me Center, a nonprofit that helps people with special needs, held a party and groundbreaking in September for its future 25-acre site at 1160 S. Hartmann Drive in Lebanon. The groundbreaking was for a new 10,000-square-foot education building that will allow Empower Me Center to hold all its programs on-site. Work has started on site preparation, concrete footers, underground infrastructure, utilities and more, Empower Me Center spokesperson Savannah Partlow said. In 2023, through its Summer Day Camp, Adult Day Program, and Year-Round Respite and Enrichment activities, the organization provided over 3,000 experiences to individuals with disabilities across 13 counties in Middle Tennessee, officials said. Plans for Empower Me Center also include a 37,000-square-foot building, a splash pad, a Miracle League baseball field, an adaptive playground, an outdoor sports court, soccer fields, bocce courts, a driving range with a putting area, and a Dream Garden with outdoor musical instruments. Empower Me Center was founded in 1999. Road extension work that is required to support the future Sam's Club is underway, according to the city The site plan for the membership store was approved in 2024 on 22 acres at Willard Hagan Drive along South Hartmann Drive, north of Interstate 40. Lebanon's City Council also approved an agreement with Endeavor Partners to extend Willard Drive and Hagan Way to support the future Sam's Club and other retail business that may be recruited to the area. Hopes are to finish the road extension work by Thanksgiving, Lebanon Public Works Commissioner Jeff Baines said. Sam's has started site work, Baines said, but the company does not yet have an estimated opening date. Work is underway to build a new 3,885-square-foot In-N-Out Burger restaurant on South Hartmann Drive across from Home Depot. In-N-Out is moving forward with plans to open multiple restaurants in Middle Tennessee along with a future eastern territory office in Franklin. One location proposed is also in Mt. Juliet. In-N-Out estimated opening Tennessee restaurants by 2026, but has not been more specific. The parcel is part of a larger commercial development, with no additional road improvements necessary, according to the city. The Goddard School is moving forward with plans to build a new preschool and early education and child care facility on the southwest corner of Lebanon Road (Highway 70) and Palmer Road across from the Five Oaks subdivision. The Lebanon Planning Commission gave its approval to school's plan for a building of approximately 14,000 square feet, with 13 classrooms planned. A 720-square-foot gym and two larger outdoor playgrounds with artificial turf are also planned, said Jim Farmer, who will own the franchise with his wife, Becky. The Goddard School has requested an amendment to the plan that seeks to add an entrance onto Palmer Road. After delays with utilities reviews and pond requirements, hopes now are to start construction in May, Jim Farmer said. Opening is estimated for early to late spring 2026. Rackley Roofing has opened a new office at the former Bates Ford location at 1673 W. Main St., according to the commercial roofing company. The move is to consolidate Rackley Roofing's Middle Tennessee offices in Carthage, Mt. Juliet and Murfreesboro, Chief Operating Officer Michelle Boykin said. Rackley Roofing also has offices in Knoxville and Cleveland, Tennessee. Much of the company's leadership lives in Wilson County, and the location provides visibility to vehicle traffic to help with recruiting, Boykin said. Rackley Roofing purchased the property after Bates Ford moved to Franklin Road just south of Interstate 40. A building on the property toward the back is designated as Rackley University, a portion of which will be utilized to train potential workers, evaluate skills and provide classroom space. Warren Brothers Sash & Door Co. has announced a move from Nashville to a 142,500-square-foot building on Bridgestone Parkway for a new manufacturing and distribution facility with 110 jobs. The facility is between Highway 109 and Interstate 840, south of I-40. Warren Brothers, which supplies doors, windows, stairways and interior trim to the building industry, is a division of Rugby Architectural Building Products. Warren Brothers/Rugby management and the company's landlord are investing more than $800,000 in the relocation and expansion. Improvements include office remodeling, building upgrades, electrical upgrades to accommodate door assembly, new energy efficient lighting, industrial warehouse racks designed for the building materials industry and additional door manufacturing equipment.
