Iowa native Eric Henderson announced as Drake men's basketball head coach
DES MOINES, Iowa (KCAU) – Iowa native and former South Dakota State head coach Eric Henderson has been named the head coach of Drake men's basketball. Henderson spent the past 6 seasons as the head coach of the South Dakota State Jackrabbits, posting an overall 129-60 record during his tenure. The Wayne State alum was named the Summit League Coach of the Year and led the Jacks to four regular season conference titles as well as two Summit League tournament titles and a pair of NCAA tournament appearances. After the Bulldogs phenomenal season under the leadership of Ben McCollum, many are asking Henderson how he is going to continue Drake's winning trajectory. 'I did ask that question a fair amount to be honest with you, because obviously what the basketball program here at Drake has done is incredible. I was in those shoes before and at the end of the day we're going to control what we can control,' Henderson said. 'We don't talk about having to win a championship, having to do this, having to do that to be successful. It's more important to us to think about what habits we are going to build on a daily basis.' Drake hires South Dakota State's Eric Henderson as next men's basketball head coach
DES MOINES, Iowa — Drake University announced on Friday that it has hired South Dakota State's Eric Henderson as its next men's basketball head coach. Henderson played college basketball under Greg McDermott at Wayne State College in Nebraska and later joined McDermott at Iowa State as a graduate manager. In 2019 Henderson succeeded T.J. Otzelberger and was named head coach at South Dakota State University. Paton Churdan principal honored with Golden Apple While at SDSU Henderson led the Jackrabbits to the NCAA Tournament twice. He was also named the Summit League Coach of the Year during his first season with the Jackrabbits. Henderson is taking over the Drake head coaching position after it was announced that former head coach Ben McCollum would be taking over as head coach of the University of Iowa men's basketball team.
