Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics. My federal tax forms were filed on Feb. 6, and I was told the refund would take 'a few weeks.' Today is June 6, and still no refund. After repeatedly calling the 800 number, I personally drove to the local IRS office on Old Highway 49 in Gulfport. A security guard made me empty all my pockets and he frisked me. Then he sent me to the desk. The woman at the desk told me I had to call an 800 number to make an appointment. Is this any way to treat honest taxpayers? Orders and actions by the Trump Administration have been thwarted and obstructed by separate U.S. District Court judges around the country seven times in the past week alone. This was a publicly stated goal of left wing organizations during the election when it became clear that Trump would likely be elected. The American people are outraged by the blatant judicial overreach displayed by certain courts, issuing rulings far beyond their constitutional authority. This reckless abuse of power undermines the very foundation of our system of checks and balances and signals that parts of the judiciary have gone completely off the rails. If this continues unchecked, either the Supreme Court must intervene to restore order, or the people themselves will lose all confidence in the judiciary. Without accountability, even legitimate rulings on real crimes will be viewed with skepticism, threatening the rule of law itself. It matters not whether a judge is at the city level or a Supreme Court justice. Their job is to interpret the law and, ultimately, the constitution. Whether you, I or the president breaks the law, we are still subject to it and the ultimate law of the country, the constitution. I was wanting to give some information to the uninformed person who thinks law abiding citizens should be able to get full automatic weapons, since they say criminals have them. Law-abiding citizens already can get fully automatic weapons. They are just heavily regulated, limited in number, and very expensive. Criminals do not have them, and that is why we don't see them used in crimes. I apologize in advance for any harm caused by introducing facts and reality into your liberal echo chamber. The CDC says guns are the number one killer of children. Christians who claim to be pro-life need to really examine their position on gun safety regulations. How much money have you made betting on President Trump to flip-flop on tariffs? And if the answer is nothing, it's time to get on the train. Send your Sound Offs to soundoff@

Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics. Selena Gomez recently said about her dear friend Taylor Swift, 'We don't agree on everything, but we respect each other with everything.' Oh that liberals and conservatives could relate to one another like that! Our nation would be infinitely better off. The judicial overreach by liberal Democrat judges is simple. How can a city or county circuit judge rule over the entire United States of America? Doesn't make sense. Former president Bill Clinton stated that he did not see any cognitive decline in Joe Biden. Must be true because everybody knows Bill would never tell a lie. The denizens of the deep state are finally emerging from the depths of the swamp. They are the appointees of the Trump administration. The Supreme Court just blocked an attempt to ban legal purchase of semiautomatic weapons. Now they need to get rid of the block on automatic weapons. Criminals have them, so law abiding citizens should be able to get them. Criminals shouldn't have an advantage over law abiding citizens. I generally understand the theories of how we can increase revenues to the federal treasury. We can create growth with reductions in tax, federal waste, reform and any other program that we can introduce hoping to that end result. What I do not understand is, if it does work, how are we going to stop Congress from spending all that savings and not using any of it to actually pay down the existing debt. Let's add an amendment to any new legislation making it mandatory the savings apply only to old debt. The president, and FOX Entertainment should be ashamed for their absence of integrity and morals. You'd think that an educated Republican would see the collusion between lying FOX News and President Trump's placement of unqualified FOX News and entertainment anchors on his Cabinet and even watchdog agencies. It was disappointing to see a post in which the writer was promoting anger. This individual didn't agree with the idea there was a store trailer a few feet from a 'no mobile vending' sign. This person asks in the post 'where is your anger, people'? I agree with the main point of the post. But anger? Why does any disagreement bring anger, let alone such a petty issue. I had no intention of voting in the Gulfport mayoral race this year. As a result of the shenanigans of last week I have changed my mind. I have decided to go vote and hold my nose as I mark my ballot. I don't know if the billing department for the Gulfport water department is disorganized or technologically outdated, but once again I've gotten a late bill with 2 payments due. If local elections didn't allow a candidate to identify with a party, none of the absolute garbage and insanity would be going on in Gulfport. There is no need for party identification on the local level. Cities here are small enough that a candidate can campaign without such attachment for funding. The party ideology has no place in running our cities. This election is a perfect example of how asinine it is to attach yourself so vehemently to a party. Residents can't make a reasonably good choice because the waters are so muddy you don't know who these people really are to even make a decent decision. A GOP senator was defending cuts to Medicaid saying 'we are all going to die.' Yes, but we want to be cared for until the end. Maybe they will legalize euthanasia next. Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics. If you were ever thinking about traveling to Canada, you should be doing that right now. The exchange rate now is one Canadian dollar to 73 U.S. cents. That means if you want to buy some item or some service like a hotel night in Canada that cost $100 in their currency, the actual cost to you in U.S. dollars is $73. One American dollar equals 19 Mexican pesos, but since 2024 the State Department has cautions about travel to Mexico regarding violent crime and kidnapping potential. They also have 'do not travel' to Venezuela for any reason advisories plus cautions about its border with Colombia and Brazil. It seems all that the Democrats can offer is to call President Trump ugly names. President Trump reposted a comment on social media that claims Joe Biden was executed in 2020 and replaced by a clone. Looks like social media has replaced the National Enquirer and other magazines they used to sell at the supermarkets. The one thing Gulfport does not need is more of the same billionaire and millionaire Trump puppets in Mississippi. The only tool average citizens have to fight for Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security is with the vote. The federal government has no business funding Planned Parenthood to the tune of multiple millions of dollars annually. It's not an appropriate use of taxpayer dollars. We've been told since the sixties that abortion is strictly a medically private matter between a woman and her doctor. That standard alone means public tax dollars should not be funding it. There are private practices in nearly every state should a woman want this procedure. Go there, pay for it yourself or get private donations. Planned Parenthood has expanded its services to trans individuals. What does that have to do with planning for parenthood or abortion? The rest of us don't get federally funded plastic or cosmetic surgery. Save up your personal coins. I called 911 because I needed help lifting my husband off the floor after falling. They responded in minutes and were very professional. Thanks guys. Our tax money working for us. Anyone notice how quiet the media is regarding the ongoing destruction of Gaza. The reason is media is not allowed. This is America's true deep state at work controlling honest media, and its not Democrats. Send your Sound Offs to soundoff@

Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics. Memorial Day is a holiday, but it's also a time to honor all those who didn't make it back home. As a 76-year-old veteran, watching President Trump, a 5-time draft dodger, hold a salute makes me want to puke. Grocery stores cannot sell liquor on Sunday, but you can buy it at any restaurant. Now they are proposing selling liquor at the waterpark. Wasn't this an issue that Christians rallied behind not so long ago? It seems like issues become political only when luring constituents to come out and vote. Why has DOGE not touched the USPS? I don't need junk mail delivered six days a week. I wonder if all the people saying the courts are overstepping their authority felt that way when President Biden's executive orders were overturned? If the president can't forgive student loans, he shouldn't be able to fire people without cause. He shouldn't be able to arrest people without warrants. The law applies to both parties. Stop playing football politics where you only want penalties called on the other team. President Trump's speech at West Point was embarrassing. He uses off-the-wall topics to cover up his lack of knowledge for the many issues he knows nothing about. He should just stick to his script. How nice it is to have a president more concerned about the status of Americans, and not the rest of the world. Send your Sound Offs to soundoff@

Sun Herald readers weigh in on local and national topics: Come live on E Wortham Road and you, too, can enjoy dump trucks driving back and forth all day long, six day a week. Some with their loud brakes. In the Sound of for 24 May an obvious Trump-hater stated that President Trump said '... Liz Cheney should be shot' which was blatantly untrue. With Tucker Carlson on October 31, 2024, then former President Donald Trump at the time, referred to her as a 'radical war hawk' and said, 'Let's put her with a rifle standing there with nine barrels shooting at her. OK? Let's see how she feels about it, you know, when the guns are trained on her face.' He did not explicitly state that Liz Cheney should be shot, however his comments were misperceived by the anti-Trumpers as making such a threat. Here we go again. Donald Trump allowed some white South Africans into America, claiming genocide against them. He showed us photos of it in his oval office meeting with South African president, who disputed his claims. Now the truth is out. The photos he claimed showed genocide against white people were actually taken in Congo. What do we when we cannot trust anything our President says without fact checking first. The president lied about the South African killings? I just don't believe it. I mean, he's been so honest about everything else. In keeping with the trend of posting positive stories in Sound Off, I'd like to give a big 'THANK YOU' shout out to Memorial Hospital at Gulfport (MHG). I recently had surgery there which I would have previously had performed in New Orleans or Mobile. I decided to give MHG another chance. I could not be more pleased with the experience. The entire staff, physicians, nurses, dietitians, housekeeping staff, valet staff (yes, they do have free valet parking), administration, security, clergy, and everyone else, were exceptional. Special accolades to the 3rd-floor staff. It's good to know we have such a first-class hospital right here in south Mississippi. Keep up the excellent work and once again, thanks for saving me a trip (and possibly my life) with state-of-the-art health care. It makes me proud to claim MHG as my hospital of choice when I could have decided to go out of state. People cry 'Cut our taxes!' Then they cry 'Don't cut our government programs!' But how can government programs (medical research and help, military readiness, education, disaster support, charity, etc.) be supported without taxes? Taxes are the lifeblood of a healthy society. Do taxes need to be monitored for need, efficiency, and effectiveness? Yes! But remember: a tax cut often and sometimes necessarily produces a program cut. Be careful what you ask for. Why does the press bother attending White House briefings and asking Karoline Leavitt questions? They already know they're going to get nothing but the party line. Send your Sound Offs to soundoff@
